Proposal Discussion Working for All

This is not another post on griefers, I don’t even think the word is entirely appropriate for the actions we are seeing from some players in the beta, you make your own mind up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griefer

No this post is about a measure that could be put in place that I think would leave everyone happy. Sorry if this idea has been discussed before, but here it goes:

All unmotivated murders are recorded i.e.

Destroying a player’s ship with an empty cargo hold OR
Destroying a player’s ship in which there is no bounty OR
Destroying a player’s ship in which there is no contract of assassination.

Destroying a player’s ship where the above comes into play, would assign a point to the offending players unmotivated murders (boarding & stealing ship would be exempt), when a certain amount of points are reached, then that player is put into instances with other like minded players. Players put into such instances would not even probably notice any difference to game play & as they are with other like players, it may even prove more competitive when going up against others, a kill being more satisfying. Leaving everyone else to play ED in the spirit in which it was meant, all in all, everyone would be happy.

Hellbanning. Seems sensible to me.

A side-effect of your specific suggestion is that it might be possible to allow for unrecorded offences to exist. Because the game keeps behind-the-scenes tabs on unmotivated murders, it reduces the need for the game to add a bounty for every motivated murder. I've been relatively worried at my perception (hopefully wrong!) that the game is going to punish all kills.

Not necessarily so, bounties would add up on offenders & could be collected before an offender reaches their required unmotivated murders limit. Once the player is in instances with other like players, then others in that instance can collect it. Plus you would still have bounties for piracy & maybe for contractual murder.

Why someone with an empty cargo , without a bounty and without any current and serious business would like to fly into an unsafe dangerous zone with potential aggressors (NPC or PC is not important tbh)?

This is an irrational beaviour that must be punished. Don't forget that the kill give the "+1" to the road to the elite rank.

Players must take seriously where they decide to fly and why.

Like flying towards a space station, getting docking permission, lining up with it's entrance, only to have someone creep up from behind & without any motivation, blow you away, then quickly fly off, jump into hyperspace, their increased bounty a badge of honour.

Off course such rules wouldn't come into play in set combat zones, but for space in general, they would.

we all hate these type of players and I know of a few names that fit your description, they like to currently call it testing. but until groups have been implemented we just have to put up with them. I think the issue wont be so common once groups are active, I would guess that in the final release us like minded players will join group community's that will exclude the type of players you mention.

On the other hand, vapourising everyone you come across, regardless of a lack of bounty, contracts, cargo etc, should also be punished.

The full release will have the measures for this, mainly. In "safe" space, i.e. when getting to space stations in federal space there will eventually be police patrols, so it won't be that easy to get away with attempted or actual murder.

Out in anarchic space then it will be as it should be. Every man, or group for themselves.

Currently I would say that the vast majority of the threads where peeps have issues (including me), is where the deterrents aren't in place, but others are taking advantage of this.

In the finished game if you're a persistent murderer you will find it very difficult to get around certain parts of space (you'll have a healthy bounty on your bonce), so the natural deterrent for this kind of behaviour will be there.

I personally don't see any reason why we would want to lump these players together. If they think they're hard enough to keep killing in federal space that's protected by police and I guess other player factions, then good look to them. I truly don't believe there will be that much of it going around.

Have a look through the DDF for criminality (here), that should ease any of your longer term concerns.

The "Police enforcement system" isn't implemented yet so it's hard to make predictions or proposals on something that doesn't exists.
I hope safe systems are REALLY safe but the rest must be REALLY Dangerous (again NPC or PC is not important).
