One cool thing I think would add a little bit of depth to the in universe world building is a 'time machine'

One cool idea that has been thrown around for space travel would be a large telescope placed around the galaxy to act as huge time machines, where a mirror could be placed 4000ly away it could then look back at sol 3 and view events happening there, or anywhere else in the galaxy,

something as simple as this could just be interesting and add a little bit of depth/believe-ability to the game. it could even be moved to different systems for the purpose of viewing different times.

I am afraid physics would preclude that happening, it would take certain exceptional changes to physics to enable it, read an example in the novel "To End All Telescopes" by E C Williams. Because light radiates in a spherical manner not enough photons from any one location in Sol would ever reach the mirror to form any sort of coherent image, the exception, as detailed in the novel, is if we assume that some photons are emitted from in a parallel fashion, and that's just not how physics works.
