World War Z - Zombie infection of AI soldiers

The titles is my experience with the FPS missions. Once triggered, the AI soldiers don't take defensive positions and shoot...they swarm like the zombies in World War Z. I may be able to take out one or two of them out before I am overwhelmed and my delicate flesh is consumed by these undead space freaks.

I stopped even trying these FPS missions a week or so back.

Is there a trick to this? Has Galnet released an article about the mutant virus has infected these people and driven them crazy enough to swarm forward as a universal tactic? Can children be infected with this contagion? Is a vaccination in the works and should I be wearing two masks inside my spacesuit?

But how do they sense you? Zombies need sound to detect? Also, if they are bitten, their suit is punctured and what kind of effect has that on (un)dead organism?

The executioner is great for this. If they are not up-level it generally one-shots them with shields down (Theirs can do this to you too, so watch it). If you approach from the edges and kill them with one shot while not in direct line of sight of another you can work down the numbers. Many times I can do it without them going red at all. Once down to manageable numbers I go get the standard Laser Rifle and Kinetic stuff and get more aggressive. Now that's in settlements and I still am really bad at it but with a max of 5 or so I can take them on without sneaking anymore. Keep moving as much as possible. Also keep pressure on them by knocking out shields. They will seek cover most times when their shields drop.

On the crash site salvage missions it's different. If it's just open ground and more than 3 of them then I'm taking the SRV and that's that. If I have some cover then I'll take them on. Prioritize the plasma guys first.

Get some G2 or better gear. It really makes a difference. Trust me, it takes some practice to manage even a few at a time. I was where you are last week. The combat was just unapproachable. Unfortunately the RNG nature of the numbers means any threat level can spawn 3 or a dozen which doesn't help things at all. Stick to the SRV until you have numbers and terrain that allows you to try your hand on foot.

Grenades KABOOM 💥

Swarm mechanics are utter trash and lazy development tactics. At least EA had the decency to call them zombies. I remember 20+ years ago playing the original Operation Flashpoint, and NPC's would crouch, go prone, use cover... These Odyssey ones... not so much.

They do take cover, but only after you take down their shields.

That said, I'd love to see some defensive actions before that as well.

I found an Artemis suit with an Executioner the most relaxed way to handle scavs. Just hop from roof to roof and plink away when they're unaware. Pro-tip: The Genetic sampler honk works as a short temp night vision. Helps with orientation in darkness.

It's just 90s era AI. I swear EDO's AI is straight out of Goldeneye.
EDO introduces couple new things, NEVER met before in other shooters. So you cannot compare AI

1. Different gravity. In fact you cannot compare own experience inside EDO for 2 different planets.
2. Different atmos densities.
3. full 3D moves.

Yeah the Executioner is great. Hit and run tactics work great, too. I don't think the low level equipment is enough to deal with them head on. If you're swarmed: Disengage and hide on the roofs. They'll return to their patrols eventually. Then you can proceed sniping them or give them a nice overload from behind.

The shotgun is great for it. Turn around a corned, shoot someone dead, turn back around the corner into cover, wait for shield recharge, repeat.
Even better when you have already powered the base and have the permissions: "Leaving pressurized environment." BLAM BLAM "Entering pressurized environment."

UT2k4 had a low gravity mutator that did exactly what EDO "low gravity" does. And it was just one of many little options for matches.

The atmosphere densities make zero difference, it's flavor text. It doesn't even effect sound.

Full 3d moves? You mean like Tribes from 98?

Congrats, ED prides itself on game mechanics used literally multiple decades ago. 👏

Haven't played game since half life 1 ? I played games with different gravity. As for full 3d moves, what does that mean ? Jetpack and stuff ? because all modern day sci fi shooter have that. Titanfall for example. Or Planetside 2.

Atmos density is also an option the devs can add as they wish. It's less used, probably because it's non intuitive in a shooter. But it's still used in its own way, when you have water resistance vs air resistance, which isn't new either.

I watched vids how it's done. They fake. Like each 4th hit has bullet with 300m length which guarantees hit for player immersion. Elite don't do fakes so it's trusted.
I'll give you a spoiler. Everything's fake in a videogame. And I don't know what kind of game have that bullet guaranteed hit, but it wasn't a shooter of any value, I can tell you that already.

Most game engine support gravity settings, and that's been true for decades. They even support volumetric setting, so a place is different than another.

Just needs time getting used to it. You're not playing a shooter where you're enemies are trash level. And they don't really swarm, it just looks like it if you act stupid.
