Worried about dryer climate animals

Since the Grasslands pack, I've been worried about some of the animals that could have gone into that pack not making it into the game. Unlike the Rainforest/Tropical and a Mountain/Tundra/Taiga biomes, which I think have a nearly certain and possible chance of making it in respectively, will Frontier dedicate another pack to a hot, dry climate? I realize too, that the grasslands do not include deserts so it may be that we will see more animals from that biome.

I can't be the only one who's worried we won't see these animals. I feel fairly confident they'll find a way to get an Old World Porcupine in given it's popularity and high recognizability factors...but what about the rest? Also, if we examine the drylands without adding the desert component into them, how much does it matter if we do not get more than 1 or 2 "drylands" animals?

I’m pretty sure they would address one pack to Drylands there are still some very interesting species from desert biomes out there.
There is also another possibility that they would put porcupine in a different pack like Safari for example and make dromadery the anniversary animal. But I really hope for the African donkey and Addax so I hope it won’t happen.

I mean, consider what 2 of the last packs were:

Twilight and Conservation. These were random animals that fit that general theme, but each one was distinct from the rest...

Take Conservation for example:
  • Scimitar horned oryx - desert
  • Siamang - tropical
  • Amur leopard - taiga
  • Przewalski's horse - I forgot what biome. Grasslands? Temperate?
All of these come from completely different continents and biomes.

So, I'm not worried that species from dry climates, such as the porcupine or camel. Now, a biome dedicated to dry climates, aka the desert, would be quite nice

This is an odd thread... what makes you so sure Highlands and Tropical Woodlands are more likely to be added? What makes you think Drylands are less likely? Honestly, at this point in time, it all looks equally likely to me...

I have a little theroy that Frontier is gonna do a "Safari" or "African adventure" pack someday given that there are still multiple decently requested animals left from africa.

  • Crested porcupine
  • Honey badger
  • Olive baboon
  • Secretary bird
  • Black rhino
  • Kirks dik dik
  • Giant eland
  • Ball python as the exhibit spot.

Honorable mention: African leopard, serval, grevy zebra, masai giraffe, nile crocodile, kori bustard, bat eared fox, vervet monkey.

As you can see its really easy coming up with such a pack. So i would worried to much :)

Don't worry, a desert pack is such an obvious idea that Frontier would be silly if they didn't go for it at some point. The community will dance in a conga line when we finally get the dromedary and are therefore able to use the sign that's been in game since release day or the "very useful" dromedary signs included in the Africa pack. A dromedary and a baboon can perfectly justify a desert pack. Frontier has been adding many ungulates, so an addax is highly likely for a third position in a desert pack. Frontier loves cats and dogs, so coyote and sand cat can easily come in the fourth place to complete the pack. Or maybe the peccary, roadrunner, African spurred tortoise, perentie, adouad... There are also plenty of choices for the exhibit animal, included the 2 most wanted exhibit animals: chameleons and cobras. The desert pack is as likely as an islands pack or a highlands pack for me, probably in summer 2023 (winter for some of our fellow friends).

Id like a desert animal pack for the simple reason that deserts dont need much more to feel Passable everywhere while right now only southern african deserts are well fleshed out.
2 animals north america (which could easily flex over into south america and different biomes cough cough collared peccary and burrowing owl cough cough), 2 or 3 animals australia where a budgie WE would sell the pack by itself and the rest to africa and the middle east for the dromedary, hamadryas baboon and 1 or 2 more animals to tagg along like the addax or spurred tortoise.
The really nice part of this pack would be, that the grassland pack ironically added the 2 carnivores everyone had in mind for a desert pack and with the 2 by far best option for a member of carnivora being the sandcat and the ringtail there are realistic chances they are finally being skipped, while the pack also can readily serve with a monkey, reptile and bird, making it easily cover the 3 big underrepresented groups of animals.

I on the other hand i'm not so sure about a cold weather animal pack. I'm more confident on a desert pack as a contrast to the wetlands animal pack.

The roster i will feel satisfied with for a Drylands pack would be something like this:

1. Collared peccary
2. Patagonian Mara
3. Secretary bird (i can see them doing a roadrunner but honestly if we don't get the secretary bird for this theme i don't know what other chance it will get to make it into the game)
4. Hamadryas baboon
5. Greater rhea
6. Dromedary camel
7. African crested porcupine
8. Whatever, but i'd prefer a cobra.

Yeah i know, no carnivores and 2 birds so not likely at all but those are the animals i want the most for the desert biome. I also would like the Addax and i will not be surprised if included instead of the mara or the rhea. Other possible options are the big horn sheep, the coyote, ratel and sand cat... which honestly are all three possible because frontier and their love for carnivores.

Maybe they surprises and add the perentie or the african spurred tortoise (or even the nile crocodile).

A lot of possible options. I just hope we get some other desert animals in other packs as well lol

I agree that a deserts/drylands pack seems very plausible if not outright likely for the coming year.

I'm only really concerned about the serval making it in at this point, because in my mind it would've fit better into a grasslands pack while leaving the caracal for deserts. Anything could still happen, of course.

We need a "African adventure" pack for sure.

It's a pipe dream but I'd hope that that kind of pack would be dominated by habitat birds. Not just the secretary bird but a crowned crane, guineafowl, marabou stork, shoebill, and southern ground hornbill would all be fantastic additions.
