Having sworn for Archon Delaine, I'm wondering - what's the worst possible ship for piracy? As in, the ship where, if you try to steal cargo either PvE or PvP, you're almost certain to fail, and quite likely to die?
Since this is mostly a roleplay endeavour, there are maybe two versions of this, one for ships with "raider" kits, one for everything else. Bonus points for the most grandiose name.
Ships with the raider kit:
type9
krait2
viper3
mamba
anaconda
python
vulture
cobra3
corvette
cutter
aspx
They're all sort-of OK, but of these, I think the cutter and krait are the best, the type9 and vulture probably the worst?
Of all ships in the game, the hauler and sidewinder are hilarious, but pretty bad, with the asp scout probably being the absolute worst, because despite being the NPC pirate ship of choice, it's disappointing in almost every way. It can't catch its prey, and even if it could, it has no hope of disabling it, and even the "limpet only" approach doesn't really work since there's limited space. Even the t6 is better - faster, more space for limpets and defence.
I decided on the T9, which has the twin handicaps of having pretty bad hardpoints, and being so slow that your targets can just float away at a leisurely pace to evade you. You can just about win an interdiction, and it's almost possible to get some cargo with a limpet if you're quick. You can just about survive PvE combat, and the only PvP target that might possibly work is another T9.
So far, it's hilarious. 10/10, would recommend. Yaaaaar!
