worth buying Intermediate Discovery Scanners?

So i am doing a rare goods trading route. I am wondering of its worth buying the intermediate discovery scanner? I am hoping to make some extra profit by scanning the systems I pass by and selling them 100LY away. Or should I just save up for the advanced one?

Personally, if you're not going to be a dedictated explorer, I'd say even the intermediate scanner isn't worth it. You'll need to scan quite a few systems to get your investment back, and I've had quite a bit of luck with just the basic scanner and the old mark one eyeball.

I run small cargo shipments, I have a advanced D scanner and a detailed surface scanner. On the big systems (over 20 objects) I can get 15k to 30k per system as I jump every other 20 LY. I have a fuel scoop as well, no gas bill for me, just wear & tear.

well since you can just sell it back. Isn't it just free credits?

Yup, as long as you remember to sell it before changing ship, otherwise as i recall, you do lose a little.

But yeah, not really worth it anyway unless you are exploring. You don't even need a Basic scanner if you are not exploring... well, it can be useful for mining.

Exploration can be a bit of a distraction when doing the rare goods rounds i find. You want to be passing through and just a basic scan of the star and immediate surroundings will find you most of the interesting things and earn a bit of cash. I have an advanced and its not very helpful to know that there are about 20 icy planets which will earn you very little cash and take up loads of your time when you need to be focussing on those rares and their potential profit margins...
