I'm looking to upgrade from my Type 6 but i've read and seen a few threads dissing the Type 7, saying it's a terrible ship with terrible jump ranges. Don't know if these threads are outdated or not but i'm seeing some articles saying the Type 7's max jump is 30LY yet in others I see 50LY? I'll probably be getting a B5 FSD and hope to get about 20LY jumps... Can the Type 7 do it with a B5 fully laiden(No shield) FSD?
I would still recommend getting the Type 7. It has a comfortable maneuverability, still fits well in the mailslot and is a decent upgrade from the Asp's cargo capacity.
You have to look a bit longer for good trading systems (Large pad/jump range) but these systems are there. You can achieve about 17 LY if you upgrade every module to class D and FSD to A. 216 tons capacity if you stay with 4D shields. I left out all weapons and only added point defence. This is of course the solo configuration...
Once you are ready to level up again I recommend getting the Python as it can fit more plus land on outposts. Alternatively you could get the Imperial Clipper but it cannot land on outposts.
P.S. B5 FSD yields 14 LY range with the above configuration, but I think you should invest in the best available.

The Clipper is faster (which makes you immune to interdictions), more nimble and carries more cargo for a mere 5mil more. Both can only land on L pads, so no visiting outposts with either of them.
The Clipper is (IMHO) actually far too good for its price tag and the T7 is FD's step child.
I just hope the T7 will get some love in the future.
Edit: On the other hand... The Clipper looks like an apple built hipster toy. Or, as another CMDR so aptly described it, like a female pleasuring device.
So the T7 got at least the looks going for it.
I don't think grinding rep for the clipper is for me. I plan on going Alliance.
What's the jump difference between the Clipper and Type 7? Type 7 still has the clipper beat in this regard, surely? I'd love a good 20LY laiden freighter.
Also, sorry to disappoint you, but with the trading setups I posted the ICL beats the jump range of the T7 (fully laden) by 0.07 ly... I told you the ICL is too good for its price tag
Nontheless: I flew a T7 for quite some time (wasn't interested in farming empire rep) and even with its shortcomings I actually liked my space-brick quite a lot. I will actually buy another one once I hit Tycoon and outfit it for mining.
