Worth pledging before i return from an exploration trip to the core?

I am currently on my way towards sagitarius A, I'm roughly half way there and atm I don't have alot of time to play so only managing a few hundred ly per night. Will probably be several weeks before i get there and back, and actually a holiday will intervene so in fact i am unlikely to be back in human space until August.

I was away before Powerplay landed so i have not really engaged with it yet.

I am just wondering - is there an advantage to pledging before I return? Even though I will not be able to do any missions?

I have about 30 million in cash, nothing really left that i want to buy on any ships (except the new modules when i am eligible) and an Anaconda that can fairly quickly make me more, so I will probably be able to fast-track my powerplay ranking a bit when i return ( i have no idea how expensive that is so i may be wrong)

Anyway - the question is clear - should i pledge now while i am off on my own on an exploration trip or wait until i return?

I wont advise as to whether it is worth pledging or not. I like PP but others do not.

I will say that if you decide to, wait until you are back at the station where you want to sell your data. Otherwise you may have to cross systems that are hostile to the power you pledge to.

No advantage to pledging while you are aware, except for getting some time in towards the 4 week limit on getting your hands on power specific special modules.

Just remember, once you pledge, your return home once you enter civilized space might become a little more... spicy.

Also you never know when you cross someone out there with some combat ready ship who will not like your power and will be very enthusiastic about making his faction most powerful even tens of thousands Lys from sol...
You will nit get any bonus until you start taking missions at stations...

Thanks for replies, since it seems fairly unanimous I will defer pledging until I return and sell data.

Bit of an exaggeration. I'm sure the target is not much bigger than Rutland ;)

Only advantage to explorer is if you achieve 5th rank with Li Yong (I think) where you get a massive bonus in selling your data but you need to have that rank showing as active to get bonus which takes a week at least depending on your determination. That could be very risky.

I pledged while I was at Sag A. I'm on the way back now, but will have had several weeks in the bag to go towards the level 3 award.

Interdictions don't worry me. I'll circle around civilised space to take the shortest route 'home', and escaping is easy.

It is, however, quite worth heading to Lembava to sign up for the CG, then sell the data. You're likely to get a few extra million and contribute to an FSD discount that way.

If you pledge you will get 1000cr per week for nothing plus the time will count towards the time you needed to get the power specific weapon.
