Just out of curiosity, also if I haven't seen anyone in a while, it would be nice to diagnose the problem myself - wether it is bad instancing or not many active users!

No. It just opens up half a page of statistics without context for bitter people to cite as "proof" to back up some foolish personal argument they're desperate to push.

Part of metagaming. Finding out when people are online is useful for various playstyles like PvP, Piracy, PowerPlay, and even trading. Playing during drop hours as a trader would mean your prices fluctuate less and it's easier to make the profits you expect on long runs.

With the player base so split between the EU and the U.S. though I don't know just how strong the peaks and drops will be.

Edit: Sweet Honey spattered Jeebus I left this post sitting for 10 minutes before replying and all of the hate bubbles up for no reason. Why does everyone have to assume that even the most mundane feature is being requested as some sort of ulterior plan of undermining the games entire existence? You people are getting worse than the Eve forums.

A more in-depth analysis there, but it still isn't useful in the same way a "****" Number of players currently online blurb on the launcher would be.

I feel overall it would be good to open up the player numbers data, if for no other reason than some people on Steam already assume that the steam charts cover the total player base and make misinformed judgements on the success or failure of the game based on those.
