Would like recommendations for the best voice pack to talk to my ship etc

I have seen while browsing the web certain voice packs for ED. I 've never bought one and money isn't an object. I care about immersion and enjoyment. I have somehow stumbled upon an "ad" for a voice pack that has thousands of commands, space facts, etc, when talking to your ship in ED but can't find it now.

Can you kind peeps please direct me to what would be a great ship voice that I can talk to and enjoy while I play ed in virtual reality with my oculus?

Let's all be helpful, positive, and open minded here please.

Thanks!

Merry Christmas redmantab.

You need to first get Voice Attack which is the program that (through Windows Voice Recognition) recognises your voice commands and processes them. Voice attack can be purchased from here:-

http://www.voiceattack.com/

The best Voice Packs (in my opinion) which is used with Voice Attacks are from "HCS VoicePacks" which can be purchased from here:-

http://hcsvoicepacks.com/

There are currently 15 voice packs to choose from and they are all great. Which one suits you depends on your likes and tastes. Read the descriptions with each one and play the accompanying video to choose the voice pack you like. They are all good, with different voices spoken by well know people, for example: Tom Baker (Dr Who), Brian Blessed, Paul Darrow (Blakes 7), Norman Lovett (Red Dwarf), Kate Russell (BBC Click, Elite: Dangerous Author and Stream), Verity Croft (Elite: Dangerous Ship's voice) etc.

The forums thread for KICS can be found here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=126669

It is possible to install and use more than one voice pack and you can also customise the commands through Voice Attack.

If you have never used Voice Attack or Voice Recognition before you will need to train Windows to recognise your voice, which can be done through the Voice Recognition section in the Windows Control Panel.

I hope that helps.

I don't think there is a best one, just what you prefer. I have had Midnight but bought the Verity one for when it launches because it is the same voice used by the ship.

I use Voice Attack with ASTRA from HCS. Love it. He does an amazing job building these packs and profiles. And you can easily modify the trigger commands - eg. I added "Go cold" to the list of Silent Running commands.

A note about training the windows voice recognition. I thought I would get extra reliability from reading out the commands from the HCS pack to windows recognition by practicing in notepad. There were just some commands that Windows itself sucks at recognizing, no matter how many times I practiced them, or changed the enunciation of them. (Increase sensor range always comes out as 'increase sense arrange' no matter how many times I've trained it to get the proper words. It's like windows forgets the phrase after a minute or two)

But voice attack will recognize phrases that windows has trouble with, which amazes me. It has a "confidence level" built in. So if you have an accent or your windows doesn't like certain words, Voice Attack will still compare it against the words in the command list and go with probability of what you meant. This means a very low failure rate on commands.

I love it.

hmmm. debating Verity. Is that the newest one that has all the hype? Voice of the main ship etc? It's already out right?

** edit. I use windows 10. Voice training software in w10 control panel will work fine with all of this?

Thanks!

No, it's a different voice for the built-in speech software in Windows. Some Elite players use them with VoiceAttack, a program that lets you use voice commands for hotkeys and macros. Works quite well with Elite. You can have the computer say things as part of a macro, so it seems like it's responding to you.

So these voice packs provide ship computer voices and phrases different from the default?

Almost. Each command has it's own response, or range of responses in many cases. For example, you can say 'departure handover' after the docking clamps release, and Voice Attack will run a script that will raise your ship off the platform, retract the landing gear, and give you a voiced reply to the effect of 'Raising 30 meters. Retracting landing gear. Handing you the conn.', among others.

These scripts and replies do not replace the built in game replies directly. They duplicate them in some cases, but overall supplement them by adding a far greater range of dialog from the 'AI'. Bear in mind that in order to get those replies, you generally have to either issue a voice command, or have a hotkey set to run the script via Voice Attack, as there's no direct interface with the game itself.

HCS has some videos on Youtube that show how the packs work, if you'd like to get a better idea.

Can I use this all with Windows 10?

Is there a list of the 1000 commands I can see somewhere so I really can see most of what to expect or that I can say to the ship?

I'm not too interested in the fake conversations I've seen in some of the videos, I'm more interested in the one that has the largest galactapedia element (you ask what is this and it will provide information on it, like class M stars, or Barnards Star or Black Holes etc).

Anyone have an idea which would be the best pack for this? I'm not even that into many of the ship commands, except maybe request landing and power options, mostly the galactapedia.

Got my Galaxapedia with the ASTRA voicepack which includes Stephen Hawking quotes, very good indeed! I also use Norman Lovett (Holly from Red Dwarf) when the mood takes me..

I prefer not to use voice packs as you are limited to only the lines recorded. Instead I use text-to-speech which allows me to write all my own voice lines. I recommend the free 'Hazel' voice from Microsoft for working well alongside the ingame AI voice. If you have Win8 then that voice is included, if you have Win7 then it's possible to download and install it, there are guides on the internet which you can easily find with a search such as 'Windows 7 Hazel voice'

Can you extrapolate a bit on what the Galaxapedia would be good for? Fun? Help navigating? Also, I actually DO enjoy the conversation pieces of these voice packs for role playing so, again, can someone somehow show me a list of what we can talk about to our ship with these? For example, just dont want to buy a voice pack to then barely know what types of things I can say to my ship.

Thanks peeps!

Well, it's quite comprehensive, and if you have a desire for more knowledge of things astrological, you should enjoy it, though it's a subjective thing, ie, what I enjoy and get from it may not be attractive to yourself. This video link to the pack may help to understand it..

http://hcsvoicepacks.com/collection...ia-constellations-quantum-theory-ships-vulcan

Look at the last video of the three on the page...

Look fellas, here's the deal my friends.

I just want to have some sort of an idea of what types of things I can say to my ship. You know? I already bought voice attack this morning and will be buying a voice pack as well but I just want to have some sort of an idea of what types of questions comments and answers I can say to my ship. Wouldn't it make sense that there is somewhere that I can look to see some sort of list to get a general idea of what type of things to say? You know, just some sort of starting place. Otherwise I will sit there talking to my ship saying ridiculous things and nothing will happen.

I've watched every video on the site but am guessing that the voice packs have many more questions and responses built in than featured in the videos. Would like a general idea of that they are. A list of sorts wouldn't hurt.

Any thoughts or recommendations please?

Ok, I've got verity up and running. Fun. I trained windows speech recognition with two run throughs of my reading all the words out loud to help.

When using Verity in ED, after I've now trained windows speech recognition, do I need to leave OPEN windows speech recognition in the background???

Nope. Close it. VA doesn't need it running to handle the Verity scripts.

I use Anubis, a deep male voice that is fantastic to listen to. Like most people into it I heavily customized it.

http://zenuel.com/anubis.html

It is free, the guy made it out of love and shared it with all. If you donate to him he will make custom replies.

Here is the reddit thread he posted it in: /r/EliteDangerous/comments/2u791u/anubis_for_voice_attack_free_to_good_home_3
