Hardware & Technical Would this system run the game ok?

I really wanted to buy a desktop, but after a new baby, and the fact I live half the year in China and the USA, it's not feasible.
I saw a 17" laptop on sale and was wondering if it would run the game ok with good graphics and detail. I do not do VR but would like the graphics as crisp as possible. Here are the specs:

GeForce GTX 950M 2 GB GDDR5
Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7500U (2.70 GHz)
8 GB DDR4 Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD
17.3" Full HD 1920 x 1080
16.67" x 11.10" x 1.09"-1.30" 6.83 lbs.
1 x HDMI
1 x USB 3.1 Type-C, 2 x USB 3.0 (One with Power-off Charging), 2 x USB 2.0

I am a bit computer illiterate so I really appreciate the help here.

Yes. Should not have any worries with that.

Edit: You didn't mention if it had an Ethernet connection. Use wired instead of wireless wherever possible for best performance.

Yeah when my GTX780 died I run the game on low settings 1080p at 60fps with just my i5 4670k and internal GPU. Wasn't fancy looking but it worked.

Don't expect "Ultra" with the GTX 950M, the full fat desktop version can't do it (the GTX 960 struggles too) which means the cut down laptop version will not be able to play it at such high levels. It will manage medium/high settings for the most part however.

Ultra at 720p uses up a 2Gb cards VRAM - so you might be able to up the detail if you sacrifice resolution, that is however, up to you.

GTX 950M 2GB & "run the game ok with good graphics and detail" - depends on your definition of ok & good in this context. :)
Just don't expect too much.
@ 1080p dunno, maybe Medium preset, or High with reduced/disabled shadows - might still struggle on planets & in station /planet ring instances.

I think, and I'm just speculating here, you'll get around 40-60 fps, at 1080p on medium/high settings. It'll probably suffer near planets though, probably looking at around 15-20fps.

It entirely depends on settings though.

My really old laptop can manage 30fps in space, but only 5-10fps on a planet. And the 950M is several 100% better. Lol

Thanks for the replies everyone. I checked on my current laptop and I'm only getting 12-17 fps in stations/planets and 20-30 fps in SC. The games still quite playable but I imagine it's going to feel like night and day with 40-60fps so I bought the laptop. Once I get things more settled I'll break down and get a proper desktop.

LOL reminds me of the time I installed ED on my work laptop. Managed to get 1 fps - but it still runs!
