Would you accept VR on vehicles and 2D on feet ?

As per the title: would an option like this work for you ?

I want VR in vehicles and for seated experience, and I‘m not willing to sacrifice it for Odissey. But it would be perfectly fine for me to walk around in 2D when I am not on vehicles.

I would find it perfectly acceptable, and I know it could be hard to manage the transition, but hey... if there is one thing Frontier know how to do, are nice loading screens (think about system jumping or HD to normal cruise).

So, would you find an option like this acceptable ?

Yes.

The most important thing for me is having access to atmospheric worlds when in Cockpit VR.
I have almost no interest in FPS in Elite, and if FD are not designing VR into first person from the start I genuinely don't think it will ever appear because it just can't be the experience they're claiming they want it to be.

I would be happy with atmospheric cockpit VR moving to 2D for first person, I think that is achievable with minimal dev effort on their part.

If the fps mode is not essential, why not. I mean, have acces with SRV (or the ship) to the menu of the ground station, and have the possibility to choose no fps mission.

But currently I just want to know if the new engine manages the VR for the cockpit as well.. Not clear.. It s a total new engine for all?

If yes.. oups.. not possible to use VR for Odissey, even in space or SRV. In this case.. Very very bad news for the futur of VR in ED.

No! It would be an absolute nightmare, fly to station, land, take off VR headset, change screen resolution, walk to mission objective, walk back to ship, change graphics settings, don VR, rinse repeat. Nah!

Also, how would that work in the middle, if I was in my ship / SRV would I see and be able to interact with others on foot? As in if I'm in the "sphere of combat" providing close air support for some of my buddies on foot, would I see them? Would I see the other sides players on foot to shoot at them?

@itarrow I really appreciate you trying to find a compromise, but the one you present isn't workable.

Personally? I'd rather take my chances with a slightly janky possibly buggy implementation of VR that gets improved on in subsequent updates.

IF by 2D you mean the view through the VR headset would be in 2D, probably.
IF by 2d you mean take off the headset and play the game on the monitor, NO.
I've played games where you have to switch from one to the other, it's annoying as hell. My headphones aren't attached to my headset which means I have to take off my headphones, take off my headset, put back on the headphones to switch and it would be annoying.
Games like No Man's Sky shows us that the entire game can be VR easily and the game wasn't originally made for VR.

Yeah I would be ok with it at lest you would be able to experience atmospheric worlds while flying in VR.
But I doubt Frontier will do much, I will probably go the TrackIR route moving forward and ditch VR.
When is Frontier going to let us know were VR users stand moving forward?
Frontiers PR is pathetic, they just drop a trailer that doesn't tell us that much then nothing? At lest give us a date of the Odyssey reveal!
I think they think they like to build suspense by keeping tight lipped but it just frustrates the player base by doing so!

To cut FDev some slack, I’m pretty sure the Odyssey teaser trailer reveal was an accident - someone didn’t have the correct settings on YouTube when doing prep work. Once it was out in the wild, the decision was probably made to go official and put the information out in order to get the initial Marketing rush. Everything since then has been a bit on the hurried side, not quite prepared enough kind-of feeling.

I think it would have made more sense to do the Carrier release on Tuesday, get some Press coverage of that and then Big Reveal! the day after to maintain the news momentum, followed by the Thursday livestream to finally crush the hopes and dreams of VR players (😢)

Thats my point Arioch Frontiers PR isn't very good, how do you accidentally upload a video anyway?
They have been working on Odyssey for two years I am sure they have plenty of material they could show us even a year into development.
They love to build suspense and try and surprise us but with the end result leaving some of us feeling frustrated.
I am really looking forward to getting out of the seat and experiencing ED's lore more up close and personal, I want to see what Federation Navy uniforms look like for example. If I have to drop VR and go to TrackIR I think that is an acceptable compromise if I get out and about on foot.
Look at CD Project Red for example they drop a 40 minute actual game play demo one year out from release of Cyberpunk that makes the community feel appreciated.
We hardly never get anything like that out of Frontier.

I'm not sure on the technicalities as I only upload videos on occasion, but I was watching Malik's VR stream on Thursday where he detailed how it looked like it was an accidental upload and how you could mess up - the leak being only 720p was a bit of an indicator, apparently. He mentioned one of the default upload settings makes a video "public" instead of "private", so it might just have been a checkbox finger click problem.

Hopefully other headtracking methods aren't thrown out along with VR; I've got a 3d TV which I used with ED before getting VR a few years ago, so that in combo with a headtracker might be a solution for me.

Frontier used to be really good with info post-Kickstarter, the newsletter even had a 'sneak peek' every week. They seemed to have clammed up over the last few years, probably a different Marketing strategy that depends on a big reveal and news blitz only a few months before release.
