Would you buy a custom in-game cockpit setup?

What if FD sold a DLC that offered a customized in-game cockpit setup and a HOTAS setup (with nice and pretty buttons that actually push and light up) that mirrors the in-game cockpit set up. Would you buy it?

This is a good idea at its core. I'd consider doing so if we might upgrade the canopies, and separately the location of the pilot's chair. Would make a world of difference in my FDL.

I have a center mount Warthog a busted old Throttle Quad with prop plane controls.
And a weird setup with the pedals.
Would love the layout emulated in-game for the Rift.

I tried moving the warthog to the right, but it stuffs up the mouse and pod layouts.

Wow!

Only if it was added along with other options for customizing the look and feel of your cockpit. The dash mounting points are nice but I've always felt that the game was missing a trick by not allowing greater customisation of your in-ship surroundings. In so many respects the cockpit is your avatar in the game (ship skins and HoloMe are great, but you 'experience' the game through your cockpit in nearly every aspect of play) and being able to customize your surroundings would add greatly to that. I'd go further and say that I'm completely fine with these sorts of cosmetic options all being paid-for items in the store. I'd probably get them just to have the option, but anyone who didn't care wouldn't need to spend any additional money. Then again I've always felt that cosmetics are a completely justified way for FDev to make extra cash.

Yes, the ability to customise the actual cockpit seems like an obvious thing to offer – I'd despise myself for it, but I'd definitely be sucked in.

I agree in principle, but I think that FD are taking the @!*% with some of the extras to be honest. I have no issue with items like the ship kits, which actually entail the creation of new assets, but as far as I can tell some of the extras involve little more than switching a few RGB values in the code (weapon and engine detailing etc).

If I were developing the game, personally I would take the approach of selling extensions that would allow for genuine customisation (the current “express your individuality” nonsense!). I liked what they did with Holo-me, so more base flexibility in terms of Livery would be great. I'd happily pay for a suite of tools that would allow for such a thing (on a per ship model basis if necessary), accepting any restrictions necessary to prevent players from turning their ships into flying phalluses. But then this would probably prove less lucrative than these small micro-transactions in the long run... so I guess that's that.

That said, perhaps it's more of a resource issue (more efficient to use a limited number of templates).

Don't we have those?

Compass when in orbit, yes. Gyro-compass when in space, no. The closest we have is locking onto an orbis type station but that gives orientation to that station, not to the system.

The artificial horizon on the hud is numerical only, except when landing on a planet. There should also be a clearer visual similar to the landing indicator but when flying.

Also the GPS we have when on planets sucks. It’s just numbers. Why can’t I set custom waypoints and have it show direction and distance indicators? I can do that in the 21st century with a $50 device.

Plus, my father had all these crazy devices stuck to the dashboard of our camper van in the 1980s. They all did something. I want that look on the dash of my explorer ship.

I never/rarely buy cosmetics in games. I only pay money for games or enhancements of games, like Horizons.

If a game is free and I could buy cosmetics, like DotA2, I play for free and never buy anything.

If a game is "free", but is pay to win, in the sense that I have a real disadvantage if I don't pay for items, than I typically don't play.

If a game has a regular fee (like monthly) it must be great and I would only pay to play if I could terminate anytime. EVE could have been that game for me, but I tried and it didn't dragged me in.

I would pay 0.006 € per minute to play E: D. This is 25€ if I play all night and day. And about the half if I play excessively and still get some sleep. So this is a price where I still can say I am able to play in real excess and it will not ruin me. Fdev could tell us, how much income this would generate if play time do not change. It would be a great incentive for Fdev to maximize their income and on the same time the players fun.
