Would you buy a local server version of Elite Dangerous?

I enjoy Elite. I have 3 "maxed out" toons, a squad, and thousands of hours in.

I have to say, I've really enjoyed playing on private server versions of games, for modding puposes, building / crafting purposes, and for setting up scenarios as a GM.

This last update with ED has me pretty frustrated with the current model.

I think Elite Dangerous would make a great local server game. Would you buy Elite is a local server version was avialable?

Trouble with that is the "persistent galaxy".

Can't recall what game it was but there was a game that offered this (online & moddable offline) and all that happened was that somebody created a mod' consisting of a chest that contained all the best weapons, armour and a gazillion coins which you could collect... and then swap to online mode.

what do you actually mean with 'local server'? like private servers you could lease, run and share with others?
that would be indeed cool with modding capabilities. if not, not really different from private group or solo? why would it be worth the hassle/cost?
Hosted on your own machine. Yes Modding.

there would be a lot to strip down, the thing runs on a cloud of fancy names that's probably hard to replicate on to a pc (no consoles i guess). plus baking in modding support ... dunno, they can have trouble getting a ship right themselves. but yeah, doable.

but modding support in this game would be huge. it could even work online on a base galaxy shared by everyone, with individual servers being able to add arbitrary content. particularly with this community this could just explode.

Imagine the variety that would be created if you could Mod a dedicated system, meaning the one you host, especially if you had community-based economies.

They said they were going to give out the server dll's when the servers got shut down

That's what I remember as well

And I have enough server power to host it

1TB DDR4
60 10 TB SAS 12GB/s storage array with a 20TB Server grade SSD array as cache

Gigabit internet

Plus 2 compute units ea with dual 12 Core Xeons

Don't worry - I'll only charge a small fee to help pay the electric bill

The main reason I would buy it is being able to run the version that works. Frontier demonstrated a few times that they can't concentrate on actually fixing bugs and instead sneak in additional changes that break more things. From a software development perspective it is a bit infantile and having your own game, disconnected from the servers, would help a lot here.
