Would you interdict fuel scoop distance from a sun?

Just curious if this is a "thing" for you swashbuckling types. I got interdicted twice while scooping, both about 400 ly out from the nearest inhabited system.

98% hull damage, mods took a bashing and 2 heat sinks used already, and Ive only just started my next exploration trip. Kinda peeved, but hey ho, all's far in the stars

But seriously, why would an npc interdict a target with no cargo right on top of a sun?

You know, just an after thought, info stealing would be cool for pirates, lay in wait for folk with millions of creds worth of exploration data on board

I can't think of a reason a real player would want to interdict someone near any large body. Given how random the course changes are during the minigame you're pretty much always liable to hit something if you're close enough. I got interdicted while I was feathering the throttle to slip past a gas giant trying to reach one of its moons without slowing down more than I had to, and I must have come within an inch of the cruise barrier as both of us tumbled towards and away from it. Was bloody incredible looking but I wouldn't willingly do it again.

He doesnt know you got no cargo.... but I wouldn't interdict at a star, given all you have to do to escape is turn into the star

The NPC interdict you anywhere in the system. On the star, at the port, even if you are traveling 111,000 LS in supercruise. This is only because the current mechanic "spawns" NPC when you show up in the system and as you move about it. They weren't there before you showed up, they just appear. So, they just go for you wherever you are at that point. I imagine the devs might change this to be a bit more strategic or realistic someday, but I'm sure it ain't easy.

Also, I've seen several human pirates post on this forum that interdicting at the star is a good spot to hunt human players. :)

Yes. Running is harder when you're cooking. It's slow speed, and often you can tell if there's a chance of either person hitting the sun.

Also, the pirate had no idea you had no cargo. The only way to check is to get you in normal space and scan you.

ohhh I thought you could scan in fsd..

So, if you just head into the sun, then the interdiction fails? Or would an npc just blindly follow you in?

I got interdicted whilst fuel scooping a star and then the game bugged out and i was flying around the system with the constant interdiction mini game playing which was fun. It was like downing 10 shots of vodka and going "hey lets take the old space ship for a spin"

I fuel scoop at 75% power. That gives me max maneuverability to circle around the star. Refueling while hovering at safe temperature is key. If there is a NPC interdictor, they usually go after me at intercept course instead of following me in a circle. They will get cooked before they can reach me. :)
