I am new to Elite and after a playing for almost 2 weeks and finally getting to understand different mechanics (economy/faction/powerplay wise), one thing I feel that should be in the game would be the ability to have escort missions for transport ships where something can sometime happen or not or the other way around, being able to hire npcs as escort ships.

Not sure what I think about hiring NPC's as escorts, love the idea of an escort mission though.

This is something I'm sure is desired by more than just yourself. The Dev Update this week is purportedly going to be about missions. So, maybe Michael has some goodies like this for us.

Being able to hire NPCs was in the DDF. Sounded kind of interesting in that there is a quality difference between those you hire. Depending on their price, attitude and allegiances, they could completely turn on you and sell you out (spring a trap) or steal everything you have (at least try to). Not sure that will ever happen though...

Why just for transports? I would love to hire a wing to fly Combat Zones with me! I picture the scene in New Hope where Vader has his fighter escort in the Death Star trench. I just hope my escorts would be more competent!!
