Would you like to have npc wingmates?

Depends; mainly on whether they have the same AI as the other NPCs (because holy       are they dumb) and whether they have certain alignments that restrict you.
If they had better AI and you got special followers from the factions, then yes.
Otherwise, I'll go solo.

My understanding is the larger ships with docking bays can have AI wing mates. Once they are released of course.

Yes. But with some form of mechanic to it other than just, "Do you want a wingman? Check".

I loved in Grid (from memory) where you could hire a teammate for your racing team. Price went up with skill level. And teammates had ratings for things like aggressiveness, accuracy, speed, whatever. Teammates also took a share of winnings. I would like to see that same style of mechanic used. Even to the point of a hired teammate quitting on you (perhaps even turning against you) if you fail to meet certain criteria (i.e. "You told me we would be making heaps from trading but all you're doing is looking at stars! I'm out of here!")

Simple question, simple answer....yes. :)
Mainly because I think personaly Elite Dangerous is sorely lacking in any real form of npc interaction with the player. The 'Solo' experience needs it, npc wingmates even on a basic level would be a start in the right direction. :)
.
Jack :)

Would be nice but not at the moment due to NPC bumper-car syndrome.

If the AI gets another tweek then the situation may change.

Most definitely yes to NPC wingmates (post AI brain patch of course)

Would also need to go with it, personnel salaries, ship/s purchase and outfitting, damage repair, weapon and fuel expenses. For those who want to have a fleet and hire people to fly, or the hire a subcontractor style where you pay a much higher fee and they pay all the expenses etc.

I'd love to hire npc wigmates as escorting guard in stations from time to time when doing extremly valuable trades and/or missions.
I would pay a matching fee for the escort to reach the destination. When having a resonable Route for Imperial Slaves in your Clipper
it will bring a profit of 350000 maybe one third of it is a good fair fee for an escort of 2 - 3 wingmates for a 3 jump trip.

Currently I am in heavy doubt that something like this is going to be implemented as it is discouraging player against player aggression (Piracy/Attack).

Miklos

To have the option in Solo mode, they would probably come in handy. I doubt it will happen though.

Back in around Windows 2000 era, I remember playing a racing game called Juiced 2, similar game mechanics regarding hired teammates. At least that game you could play offline.
Come to think of it, it just wasn't the same as playing NFS Underground 2 online with 3 other mates.

Absolutely. Ones with top notch AI in Open.

And no, before the inevitable stupid 'oh you just want to fly safe in a straight line' comment comes. I don't. I'm not a trader.

What I want is Open to be a place for everyone. It won't be until traders have a chance when attacked. As it is, they are practically dead the moment the interdiction succeeds. Facing huge losses of course they stick to other modes.

But with a wing of ships to command they could at least make a fight of it for both sides. Enough to have a chance of escape if the pilot is tactically astute. Make interdictions a fleet mini game. No guaranteed kills, no guaranteed safety. Just a more complex and uncertain encounter.

Unquestionably.

The results of this poll will be overwhelmingly "Yes".

If NPCs in various contexts do not make an appearance in this season I believe FD will have seriously misjudged the attitude of the playerbase, and it will have long term negative consequences for them and for the game.
