Would You Like To Have This

The ability to carry different weapons as ships cargo. This would allow you to vary loadout for different roles/missions.
Could be done in several ways.

1: Change loadout at a station that has outfitting.
2: Spacewalk :D
3: Have outfitting limpets

For smaller ships with low cargo capacity you would need to trade modules versus cargo racks to carry the extra weapons.

Maybe extend it to smaller modules as well, shield cell boosters, KWS etc.

Good idea? or insane. :O

Carrying kit as cargo. As long as changing the load out was slow enough to not give an advantage during combat, I'm in.

I recall in some of the X-games, certain weapons were also commodities producible in factories, which could be fitted from cargo to hardpoints. However the X games in general had much less realism considerations in item weight and also had magical cargo bay size expansions. ED also doesn't have variable item size & weight considerations in the current cargo system. Like how many tons of space and size consideration to store a 4A cannon.

Perhaps if ED does have variable sized cargo in the future, a combined spacelegs gameplay could involve the walking/floating cmdr accessing hardpoint panels from inside and/or outside the ship to install/uninstall weapon or other type modules which would keep it impossible to switch weapon loadouts quickly in combat.

Don't do PvP myself but I could see how this would be a great advantage there: if your opponent chooses to slow themselves down by dragging extra mass around, they'll be easier to kill!

I'd rather have unified module slots with just size. Each module has its power demand that put strain on your PP and certain draw that must be covered by PD. And we're done. Want to fill your Python with gazillion of MCs? Like in EVERY slot? No problem. But then 3/4th of them won't be firing due to power shortage. Would you like to break 1k of cargo space? No problem, just strip all weapons from T-9 and fill space with 3E cargo racks. Essentially you'll make egg shell ship that jumps 3 LYs at a time but hey, 1000 t of cargo.

I know, ship homogenization as you could make every ship perform any role at peak efficiency. But then you would think - is that FDL bounty hunting or cargo hauling? And that surprise when mere T-6 unleashes all hell on you as you mistakenly taken it as a mere trader while it was trap-ship, with lots of hidden weapons.

Engineering would also make more sense, overpower PP and high efficiency PDs would be crucial for your goals.

Eh, one can dream.
