Would You Pay to have a System You Could Name?

KK, so if FD made it possible, would you be willing to pay real kronor (or whatever Mickey Mouse currency your country uses :D) to have FD create a new system in the Bubble, or, indeed, out of it, that you could name, including the astronomical bodies within?

I would! FD could charge more for prime locations and according to how many planets and what types of planets you wanted.

Nope. In any case, no one cares if some yet another random system is named for yet another random persons cat/girfriend/relative/clever reference (take pick).

No. Some of us actually like the reasonable names of things in Elite.

Why should we lose out on this very basic bit of immersion?

Yes I just pulled that card.

It was a limited Kickstarter perk (see https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous#project_faq_42393), £ 3000 apiece.
I don't think they'll start selling system naming rights any more.

Isn't that why there's a planet called Stapled Peacock Flesh?

Frankly if I took over Frontier my first order of business would be nuking that planet from existence. :D

No thanks, I dont want some rich kid to be naming every visited system Uranus... anyway, it could work with some sort of heavy filter or pre made words... nah, it would not work. There are way too may bored ppl over the interweb already.

No. Just no. Too much opportunity for idiocy. If you want to name a planet after your pet gerbil, you can: but don't expect Frontier to impose it on anyone else.

But in real life we have a planet in our solar system named after a candy bar.

But you’ve given me an idea. I’m going to buy Frontier Developments. Then I could name any planet/star/System I wanted. :D

Unless you're going to let me proof read and accept/reject the proposals, no. I don't want to visit yomomma system with isfat, isugly and isstupid as the first 3 named bodies. It would be ok if I did it though, naturally. :D

Seriously, if somewhere in deep space this system existed I'd fall off my chair laughing if I found it.

*Anorak mode on

The planet is named for the Roman god of war, Mars.

Also what's a candy bar? Don't you mean chocolate bar? :D

*Anorak mode off

I don't care at all about naming systems, planets, moons, or even ships.
I also do not care about discovering system or planets first.

I would hate encountering system that are named after someone's girlfriend, boyfriend or kids and pets.
I hope FD spares me that.
It is bad enough to have to put up with the very often ridiculous names of players who first discovered systems.
I wish I could turn that feature off.

Hey that is an idea.
I would be willing to pay for a way to remove the names of players who first discovered a star system
I'd pay 20 bucks for that.

And interestingly, its Greek name too, Aris (or Aries) is also the Greek God of war! Coincidence! I think not! damn plagiarising Romans. :p

Don't you mean Biggus us?

I hope not, as I have a vewy good fwend in Wome called Biggus us!

How did that get through the filter? lol, wow. Props to you, the filter is usually undefeatable!

Holy shizzle.

So much this, you have no idea what I saw out there...

I do. I've done the trip to Colonia a few times on Xbox.

I am somehow more irritated with amateurish-written "player-submitted POIs" - I mean, it was bad enough to trek 7000Ly, but it was topped by reading POI beacon story written (from the looks of it) by some high-school kid.

I think only if you have "first discovery" credit should you have the option of renaming system, planet, stars, etc. It could be something you pay for, though Id also be happy if it were free as a simple "perk" of making the discovery in the first place, ala NMS.

Concerns about goofy or "immersion breaking" names are overblown and not valid.

I disagree. I like seeing astronomical catalogue names on my route planner, such as HIP 7456.
