Oh definitely. If they're not a console or joystick gamer, maybe also give them a gaming mouse like the logitech G502 (or G600) which works well for anything not gaming related also.


(With the G502, I've not used a joystick with ED so far)

No. I love this game but I would only recommend it to a hardcore gamer with tremendous patience and a willingness to do a lot of research.

It's totally unintuitive and extremely complicated.

Anything is possible but No probably not. In some ways ED might be better for non-gamers because they can go into it with no preconceived expectations, but still probably going to be more annoying than fun for most people.
