I know there is no offline mode and no plan for one. I'm happy with the game as is, but there are times where I have spotty or no internet access (business trips, hotel wifi) and can't really play online games. I have played the combat demo some just for fun on my last trip.

So my question - would you use a completely offline mode if it was available?

Yes. I'd like for my actions to influence the universe, without a ton of random people working with or against me behind the scenes. I'd find it lovely to pick a faction in a system and job for them and see how far I can expand them on my own.

No, as it wouldn't be the same as the online game.

David Braben: "An offline version of the game "would be unacceptably limited and static compared to the dynamic, ever unfolding experience we are delivering". "...being online lets us constantly both curate and evolve the galaxy, with stories unfolding according to the actions of commanders,"

No,
i want to improve my flying skills, and the best way to do so is to fight players, not NPCs.
Also, there are times a decent chat is welcome.

This quote has since turned out to be a lie. As the universe is static and the only dynamic thing is the repetitive story events they manually script.

Incorrect.

Some commanders have placed evidence on the forums showing their activities DO influence the game. :)

Yes. Because it rather sucks that whenever you find a decent commodity trade route, it's gone in hours. :/

Only reason would be if my internet went down during a time I wanted to play. I have a HOTAS and chair setup so "playing in a hotel" or "on the train" isn't my thing. I totally get why people want a single player offline experience though. I just don't need it.

I am playing in solo mode, and the high ping rates for things such as deciding what an "unidentified signal source" will generate to or coming in and out of supercruise. Today I was inside a "unidentified signal source" location for about 10 seconds after I could start going in my own direction before anything popped up.

Edit: This could, of course, be related to it being Christmas and people receiving it as a present.

Unless there are serious technical reasons i find an offline mode superflous. But there should come some multiplayer features kinda ASAPish (such as a real chat system and not that joke of chat system we currently have) or online mode is also superflous.

With the current satellite internet that I have, the solo play is perfect for me. I get to be influenced by the 'persistent' universe and also influence it in some ways while not having to deal with lag and also not using up the entirety of my 10gb monthly bandwidth allocation. But there are times where my internet just stops working, and nothing I do (resetting modem/routers etc.) will fix it. If there was a completely offline mode, I would only play it when my internet was totally crapped out.

However I should be moving to a new place in a couple months, and this new house is located in a nice civilized part of the world as opposed to my current house which is in the middle of BFE (do you Brits across the pond know about that acronym or is it just us Yanks?). So hopefully I'll have real internet to enjoy playing with/against some of you guys :D

Haven't seen the likes of it.

In addition, online only has been the cause of worthless npc's that come from nowhere, go nowhere, and do nothing.

Players are supposed to supplement the primarily NPC populated universe. Right now NPC's might as well not even be there, even in solo mode.

From the various I hate supercruise threads I imagine quite a few would. That way they could have time acceleration like other games x2 to x16 and save wherever and continue from where they left off.

I'd probably still play online even though I'm not that social. I do like seeing people going about their business. And hopefully, someday they will fix the coms and make coop more doable.

Nobody can actually say they would NEVER use offline mode, because at some point everyone has to deal with the net being down, be it half an hour or a day.

THis has been talked about ad nauseum on this forum. It's not coming, so I don't get the repeated discussion.

Only if I needed to. With Solo mode in the game, Offline is only a necessity if I don't have an internet connection.

The whole point of supercruise is to replace silly implements like time compression with something more immediate. Do you see the problem with your statement?
