Wouldn't let me jump to Aldrich Station, why?

So I was on my way to Aldrich Station in Otegine in supercruise, watching the distance and speed indicators to drop out... and I was still about a LY or so out (at least three blocks on the distance indicator away from target range), when I got some warning "Dropping Too Close" and it dropped me out of supercruise. WAY too far away still for regular travel! I charged up the jump drive again, and went into supercruise, and after 1 second it again said "Dropping Too Close" and dropped me out.
(Then while I was trying to figure out what was going on, an NPC demanded cargo or be killed. As I was trying to figure out how to drop cargo, he killed me. This is unrelated to the original problem of "Why wouldn't it let me get to the station??!" but really annoyed me.)

Sounds like you got too close to the body Aldrich Station is orbiting.

Do you have orbit lines off? They can help you notice how close you are getting.

So far as the pirate, that has always been a flaw in my opinion. They really should give you a little more time to dump some cargo (if you go that route).

They do (mostly, there are some that do not care about cargo). You get a nominal time to drop cargo, fail to and it will attack, simple as.

Yes, I understand they give you some time. I think that time should be increased, especially for newer players who might have a bit of difficulty navigating the menus and selecting what cargo to drop.

I've never actually dropped cargo for an NPC pirate, because however long ago it was that I even entertained the notion of doing anything other than blowing them up, I could never get the cargo dumped faster than it took them to open fire.

Oh... ok, I didn't see any other objects when it dropped me out, but if that's what that means, then I guess so. I just didn't notice. I guess that makes sense.

Orbit lines? Uhhmmm... I guess those are the annoying yellow lines that go across my field of view? Heh, if that's them, they're on... I just ignore them because I've no idea how to use them or what they're supposed to be telling me cheesy grin I am very new and still learning (2 days in)

Hmmm... guess I need to find the jettison cargo botton and put it on a post-it-note on my monitor if this is going to happen a lot -_- I mean, no big deal since I'm still in my beginner ship... Not gonna buy a better ship til I know things like jettison buttons and orbit lines :D

Be aware a solid circle on the HUD means that your target is on your side of the body it is orbiting whereas a broken circle means that it is obscured by it.

In short, it may be on the other side of the planet.
Which circle? I know the open circle and the solid circle in the compass that tells you if the locked object is in front or behind you...

Which circle?
Target "crashed ship" in front of ship, but behind planet. Dotted circle.

There could have been some other body in the way that you flew into. As in a planet. Was there a ring around something in the road, like a blue circle?

there is a key binding available for dropping cargo in the settings - not sure if it has a default key, but I guess not.
