Wow! Did they listen to my idea?

OMG!

I just saw that in Engineers 2.1 (from Obsidian Ant's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EeTyRCV04o) that they may be introducing healing lasers... I HOPE YOU CREDIT ME! Haha! You can see what I wrote (in my original thread, here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=221657), and then cross-reference the image below - which is one of the ideas I put down in the suggestion forum:

  • Crystalline-State Drive: Emerald Matrix
    • Increase heat generation of all beam weapons by 150%.
    • Increase power-draw by 75%.
    • Lose all ranks of armour penetration.
    • Lose all ranks of damage.
    • Gain 125% range.
    • All laser types (or just Beams) now transfer power to a target's shields, replenishing them by 1.400 per tick (provides faster regeneration of shields). Does not work on collapsed shields. ((note: instead of recharging, this module could have the effect of acting as a shield hardener instead)).
    • All laser and beam weapons colours are changed to green, and look quad-helix-like (if such a thing is possible) when they fire.
    • (Not a good idea to target your enemy's active shields...)

Special note: As with the ammunition storage idea, only one CSD can be active on a ship at any one time - however, I would suggest these CSD's can be mounted in any module slot as they do not use ammunition, so, therefore, more room to hook it up wherever in the ship.

They even added the helix-look (of the beam laser) of my idea! (possibly).

SO SHOCKED I SAW IT IN HIS VIDEO!

Really... excited... I really hope they read my ideas and it isn't just co-incidence... that would make me sad T_T

So you don't think this is just the special weapon from that Powerplay faction I can't recall that has finally possibly been fixed so it works then?

You never know, I had the a similar thing happen when I suggested the Cobra MK IV should be made not long before it actually was.

Not sure if I should be thanked for that one though! ;)

.. there never was a PP weapon that regenerated shields, so no.

lol

thanks for the benefit of the doubt mate :) I really hope they looked at my thread and generated some more ideas for the better for it - I keep jumping on and off the game, as other games keep pulling me back to them, but once Engineers hits, I will be on this game SO much more...

and even more so if they admit they took a peek at my ideas back in January T_T

one can only hope - I was just so shocked when I saw Obsidian Ant mention it - it was a pure     moment :O

At first I thought this was a bad idea because it was too magic-like. Then I did some research, and found that energy transfer via lasers is not only viable. It's been done already.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaserMotive

Then I decried this as being to much like other MMOs with healer classes etc. But after some consideration, I think this may ultimately be a good thing. Why?

Because it will encourage teamwork. Make people feel safer in open. Encourage more strategy in PVP, giving people with slower reactions time to react. Allow protectors to really protect. And will be good for the longevity of the game in general.

That being said. If they ever make a laser that restores hull or repairs the power plant, I'm out :p.

The question is how good will it be? If it takes a full battery of multiple beam lasers of an anaconda to make a significant factor in healing a 6A shield, you removed an offensive piece from the battlefield.

You could do this with a specialist drone class though. Out-of-this-World Elite-craft (shameless play on similarities to WoW of course)

Edit: Of course the Fuel Rats would be happy as they would also become Repair Rats - your one stop spaceship shop...

Its interesting that is has been added.

Though I want to make a note that the idea of healing lasers and similar stuff has been up and about, together with many...many other suggestions ever since Elite was released, not to take the wind out of your sails, or such, it is good that people keep at it proving we think it is a good idea as a collective, but I don't think it was you as person's idea and more everyone that wanted a healing kind of laser's group effort, still a good effort though :)

Great!.. Now we will have to deal with a bunch of Cmdr's runnin' around committing random acts of unselfishness and outright kindness.
