Wow...I got lucky.

I explored an "Unidentified Signal Source" in a unexplored galaxy near the Founder's World. I'm still a noob even though I backed the box version since the KS was still going. This source was an dark bluish or black Anaconda (expert or master that was not wanted). Since I new at the game (played like twice since beta 1), I used my "Intermediate Discovery Scanner" on it. I'm in the Explorer version of the Cobra MKIII.

Once the my ship's hardpoints were extended, the Anaconda blew out my shields, dropped my hull to 23%, and cracked my windshield. This appeared to be one shot or a group of shots.

I was about to give in this ship since I was the one who started the threat by scanning. Since I was going to die, I decided to jump out of there. As the Friendship drive was charging, the "Incoming Missile" message appeared. I'm not sure if I made the jump in the last second, but I think it was close.

As I was flying back to the Founder's World via hyperspace, the air left was almost gone. I was also thinking how can I go to hyperspace with no shields and a cracked windshield. I was just lucky I was able to escape.

I was able to make in in the hanger within seconds of running out of air. Not sure what will happen if I run out of air while inside a station. I was carrying 48k Cr in commodities too.

It was a very exciting experience, not sure I will be so lucky if I had to do it again.

Thanks for sharing!

Maybe you should sell all of that Explorer malark (I'm sure it's worth a few million Cr) and kit your Cobra out for kicking ass.. Then next time, you can show that 'Conda who's the daddy! :D

A life support upgrade is one of the cheapest components you can buy but those extra few minutes you last can be a lifesaver/shipsaver!

Opening hardpoints is seen as an act of aggression by many NPCs. They also seem to know when you have locked them as many open their hardpoints if I keep them locked too long.

Poking Anaconda's is not wise unless well equipped. I will never forget my first three encounters with War Essence ;)

Nice little story of the beginner pilot :). Good luck out there and watch out for evil Anacondas. don't use scanners on ships. Basic intermediate and advanced scanners are for scanning star systems. Kill warrant scanner is the one for scanning bounties on ships in anarchy zones and otherwise.

One thing to note - your Intermediate Discovery Scanner wouldn't do anything to a ship, it's for finding celestial bodies only - unless you knew that and were just extending hardpoints to see what would happen. However, just in case there was a thought that the Intermediate Scanner actually does anything to a ship, thought I would comment! KWS and Cargo Scanners of course are ship-relevant.

being a kickstarter Cobra, i don' t think you can sell the stuff for credits, i think all that is loaned to avoid exploits (note, i think, not sure)

secondly, OP, the intermediate discovery scanner is something you use in a unexplored system to reveal stars, planets and asteroid belts that you then can go scan to sell data about. it does not do anything if used on a ship. think of it as a sonar of sorts, it sends out a huge Ping (Thuuuuump) and gets the signals back from it when it finds something, currently there are 3 of which you have the middle one, they vary by range. the advanced pretty much finds everything, the basic you have to do frequent thumps or you only find stuff close to you. the 'conda probably thought your opening of the hardpoints was threatening or he was a grumpy old NPC who really wanted you off his lawn.

inside a station (with a mail slot) there is air so your good there, on outposts, you have to go inside the hangar for a bit o air.

and one small detail last, currently we only have one galaxy to explore, im sure tho you meant an unexplored system :p

Edit, Fao(u)l Ninja ;)

I like how so many people call it the friendship drive. The galaxy is a brighter place for it. I think it needs to be changed in game. And spout rainbows out of the thrusters.

There is one galaxy in the game and the Founder's world is on it.

Maybe in a few years when the game is mature they will open the Magellanic clouds, they are in the galaxy map if you zoom out... so you never know...

I was not expecting any rep, so thanks! Thanks for the info about the scanners, the game does not offer too much. Even searching for info does not explain much unless you use it. As for the large ping, I get it now....the sound is incredible when you use 7.1 headphones. I feel like my eardrums are going to pop.

As for the anaconda, that ship kinda reminded me of Black Pearl...I was expecting the pilot to be wanted while scanning it. I should of said system instead of galaxy. I did make over 5k for the scans, I just wish it covered my repair bills :p

I might of done better if I did not use my mouse and keyboard, and use CH Products hotas that I bought for the game (already owned the petals). I tired setting it up in beta 1/2, but it was a pain.

I'd say that a player, who has posted this screenshot was even more lucky:
