Wow lost my first ship in ages, found it totally terrifying.

There I was flying along in my Vulture at the local high intensity conflict zone, attempting to drive Jet Cartel out of my neighbourhood.
Been there for a while racking up the creds and I came across a juicy anaconda.
I was beating it down when I got jumped by two more ships. I realise in my enthusiasm for the kill that I had drifted a long way away from the main contingent of ships, so, there was not much chance of any help.

Suddenly one of the other ships, another Conda crosses right in front of me and I have no time to avoid it, so there may have been a little contact and suddenly I have no shields .
Adrenaline pumping now and Wham! Wham! Wham!, getting hit from everywhere, looked like I was in a laser light show with me as the star.
I catch a glance of the third ship as I drop more flack an try to get the hell out as I was surrounded.
There are sparks and SHE keeps yelling at me, "taking damage," "this is offline", "that is offline", cracking canopy noises!!!!(I hate that more than anything)

Getting that sinking feeling, I start boosting away. She is still yelling at me, "Weapons Offline" or something similar more flack in my ship from the console than there is outside hehe .
OK Another boost and a turn I am in clear space.. Woohoo getting away. Drop more flack...damn no more flack left.
About to give the enemy the finger and then SHE calmly says "Thrusters Offline"....
There I am tumbling out of control, a few seconds later canopy pops and Kaboom! I am debris.

Just Awesome!!!!
That is only the third ship I have lost in 12 months. Guess I got a little careless and didn't realise how bad it was getting until it was way too late.
I had insurance covered so no biggy other than losing the 800k or so in bounties I had racked up.

Interestingly I have lost thrusters twice in my Vulture. The other time, my shields came back in time for me to at least get them repaired enough to get them back online and I escaped. Gotta stop getting careless and a little too cocky.

I am sure that an AI pirate swooping in front of me dropped mines in my path the other day (I thought it was chaff at the time), I could see no other reason for the sudden lightshow, loss of shields and rippling increase of damage (the opponent was circling around so not firing at the time).

Anyone else seen AI using mines?

hehe, indeed its great.
i don't know if there is something wrong whit me, i might be a masochist or something,
but i think getting killed or get beaten up by NPC's to near death is one of the best feelings :p

Actually there were some mines about in last nights battle so I think they are using them. Not many, just a couple. Thought it odd to see cargo in a conflict zone, then saw they were mines.

I've said this before on someone else's combat shenanigans and yours too was very well written and described - images cycling through in my head whilst reading your story because it was all so familiar. I enjoy reading these very much, but particularly yours! And yes the canopy cracking gets me too every time, will it break completely or not, have I enough O2 to make the heart pumping trip to a station anyway if it does, whilst all the while our lady companion warning us of pending doom in such a calm voice that does little to lower our heart rate.

Thanks Bill :)

The Ai is occasionally doing things that surprise me. A while back I was mining with a friend and an NPC Imperial Clipper approached and scanned me. I had only just started so had nothing. He gave the usual dismissal about "how do I make a living, yada yada", but then didn't leave. He just sat there watching me. Every where I went he gave a little burst of thrust and turned to follow me. Started to creep me out. So I sat there are stared back to see what would happen. Then he started to approach me slowly and almost go nose to nose, I got ready to switch to weapons and he just flew over the top of me and took off. My mate that was nearby simply said, that was creepy.

Thanks Yodaphone. I know what you mean with the canopy pop. Here is a link to a video I was making last year before the game was released and I got careless https://youtu.be/28j-DpzmEMg?t=1005

Nice story! :) +rep

/pedants hat on
The stuff you're dropping is chaff, flack (or flak) is the exact opposite (more or less)! :D
/pedants hat off

Gets your adrenaline going for sure.

Lost my Vulture in combat zone, but did not notice 2 real commanders among the ships on the other side.
Python made short work of my shields and I could only watch as it killed me having already taken my thrusters out.

A interesting lesson and always learning some thing new in ED.

Hmmm Maybe that's why it didnt work. :D
Yes you are right. I don't know why I kept saying that. I guess I was caught up in the moment.
I hope I don't cop too much chaff over that gaff ;)
