Wow! Lots of pirates this weekend!

I have to say I have encountered more pirates in the last 2 days than I have since I got the game 5 weeks ago! In the last 24 hours I have been destroyed once and interdicted 3 times in 4 systems. Thankfully I was able to get away from the interdictions. Well, except for the first one where I got killed.

Made for some tense moments!

My guess is that those are not pirates, but rather kids who enjoy interdicting new players in small ships because they fly bigger and more powerful ships. These people don't thrive on skill or competition (they run away from that, in fact, for fear of their own destruction). If I'm wrong and you were in fact interdicted by players acting as true pirates (I.e. demanding cargo in return for safe passage) then.... cool!

I was running a rare route. I got killed up in Zaonce and interdicted 2 other times in Zeessze and 39 Tauri. Since I got away from the last 2 interdictions, I couldn't truly say if they were pirates or just out to kill me. The one that actually killed me, was flying an Cobra Mk III. Went through my A4 shields like they were butter. Didn't say a word to me.
Meh, if I didn't want the danger, I would fly in Solo! =D

My guess is that they were not necessarily pirates, but simply players starved for content. For such players (myself included), PVP is all they have left. Even if it's unbalanced PVP.

I was just in another thread discussing this same thing of the legitimacy of player murdering (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=163538&page=9) and turns out there is another way of playing the game other than solo or getting your teeth all over space because you wanted to be an explorer or a trader. PVE. Check out the thread. Go back to solo when you're properly outfitted for the "boxing ring" (it's a reference from a post of the aforementioned thread).

Yep, I recently joined that group also.....have played in open from the start but if when I return to inhabited space I find the ratio of psycho's is (posts of late would lend evidence to already is) out of whack I will defect until such time as real consequences are put in place for the current droves of mindless gankers. Until that happens I will stay defected from open play.

I have been playing online games since the advent of BBS's and I am used to players killing other players. It can be fun to do. I have done it a few times myself and I don't get upset when it happens to me. It is part of the game. Either upgrade your ship so it can take a beating and survive, join the combat or move to solo for a while. I don't see a whole lot of players on when I usually play, which is why I was so surprised to see so many people out to get me =p I ended up taking a break for a while and watched a movie. Logged back on and jumped to the next system (Lave) and got interdicted just as I was about to drop out of super cruise at Lave Station. Beat the mini-game and made it to the base no problems!

Seriously, people need to relax a little when they get killed as that is what insurance is for! =D

I used to play MUD's back in the day also......Swords of Chaos mostly....on the local bbs there was a player who took delight in being a jerk to me when I first started (killing me at every opportunity) and I got even by long hours of play until I was a good 20-30 levels above him. I then proceeded to mercilessly slaughter him every time I saw him like he did to me when I first started (hiding in stealth made this quite easy as he was pretty much being one shot). In essence I turned into the exact thing he was when I started playing and was brutal to him to the point that I started to feel bad about it. On the one hand he brought most of it on himself but on the other I still feel bad that my retribution (which I let him know beforehand was coming) was a little overboard. I now am content to live and let live in games I play but still don't like bullies and will stand up against that kind of play if I am witness to it happening.

Thats the spirit!

Don't come complaining when you're lonely.
Good - let open mode die. Open mode is what draws in new players. If it's dead, then maybe FD would reconsider their direction in creating a multiplayer game with half-baked (if that) multiplayer content. Maybe we'd actually see player-driven content in an effort to draw in more players.
