Wow! Never had this happen before! :)

I'm primarily a combat pilot, currently ranked Dangerous. I stack Wing Pirate Massacre missions in such a way that my kills spread across the missions in an efficient manner, so each kill gets me credit for 6-8 kills. I load up with a few hundred million credits' worth of Massacre missions and go crazy in a HazRez. This is my main modus operandii, but today something different happened.

After turning in about 70 million in Massacre missions of a particular pirate faction, I got a notice from them that relations with their gang were now "Hostile." Nothing new, this has happened before with other pirate factions, like the Ualame Silver Gang, after I kill hundreds upon hundreds of them.

But this time, I popped into a HazRez in a particular ring of a particular planet, and EVERY ship of this particular pirate faction in the instance immediately went hostile and attacked me at once. Six ships: three Cobra variants, a Vulture, an FAS, and a Viper Mk III. Suddenly I'm in a firestorm of death, but fortunately I was in a ship that I'm slowly engineering for Pvp, a Mamba called the "Blue-Ringed Octopus." I had a bit of an unusual loadout that I was playing around with though: utility weapons in the small hardpoints, and all overcharged cannons in the larges and the huge. (The utilities are a multicannon with corrosive and a pulse laser with rapid fire and scramble spectrum.)

At first I was inclined to take out the FAS first, but it was pretty hard so I switched tactics and took out the Cobras and the Viper to mitigate the swarm's DPS. I'm not sure what all the pilot ranks were; the Vulture was Deadly and I think the FAS was also. I wasted too much ammo on taking out the Viper though; it was too nimble and I was only landing one salvo in five. At the end of the fight, only the Vulture and the FAS were left, so I switched back to the FAS, but eventually ran out of ammo. :( I guess I could have synthed some at that point, but opted to cut and run in order to restock instead.

This was the first time that a hostile faction automatically aggro'd me without provocation. Does this sort of thing happen more often at higher combat ranks? If so, bring it on, it was the most fun I've had in Elite for a while!

Thats a really cool experience. I am not sure if I am hostile with any factions, but I like the "smash on sight" aspect. Gives it an actual meaning/ a little life to the galaxy

Hmm, interesting that this is new to you, while you write that you had hostile state before. The same thing has happened to me merely weeks after the game launched. I still was in a Viper, as i couldn't afford more yet, so you can also guess where my combat rank was at that time.

I have to admit that since then the hostile never happened to me. I just was traveling around too much, damaged my reputation with pirates all over the place, but somehow never reached hostile. (Even at places which had more than one CG. In the time between the CGs, reputation decay "fixed" things again. )

But up to now i thought what you described was the normal behaviour. It didn't even occur to me that it could've been different in between.

I thought stacking Massacre missions no longer worked? I had heard somewhere that was fixed, is that not the case?
you can still stack missions but each kill only counts for the first single mission it just means you don't require going back to the station untill all the wing kill missions are done...
Each pirate faction kill mission has a negative rep action on the faction you kill still you still get a notification message each time the rep drops with that faction when you hand in the missions...
Wing missions have a low kill count for higher pay so when stacked killing 80 ships complete 4 wing missions as example as they were 20 kills per mission.....

I collect WING Pirate Massacre missions; they still stack. Considering the numbers of kills needed, having the full week to complete the mission is sometimes a necessity. But the WING missions pay out in tens of millions, if allied with the quest giving factions, and it's still possible to stack them. I've had 400 million worth in my mission list at a time.

Due to the planning involved in stacking WING missions this way, I hope FDev won't nerf them. You have to find a system where surrounding system facitons are putting a bounty on one particular pirate faction, then you have to work yourself up to ally with (preferrably) 8-10 factions, then stack missions from them, but in a balanced fashion so that you don't need 500 kills for one quest giver but only 25 for another.

This is how I made my ~2.5 billion.

Can't help I'm afraid, but how many credits per hour does the stacking make you?
Hard to say, there are a lot of factors involved. Some of my ships really chew up NPCs really fast; others are very powerful, but require more skill/time to take out pirates. And of course, the more different quest givers that you stack, the more each of your kills gets multiplied. When I first started doing this, I was only taking missions from 3-4 factions, so each kill counted for 3-4. Now I try to get that number much higher.

You can make hundreds of millions a week, playing a couple hours a night.

Interesting, I wonder if location has something to do with it. The first few times I targeted specific factions, I was working Nav beacons. Eventually I upgraded to a particular HazRez since the spawn rates were way better.

I actually posted a Suggestion thread here (I'm pretty sure it was a thread) about how "Hostile" factions should attack on sight, since I had never seen that behavior before. I'm glad it actually IS part of the game, at least under certain conditions, because I really felt like it was missing until now.

As for me, this is expected. That is exactly what "hostile" means, right? Never tested that though, I prefer to move to another region to kill pirates there.

Stacking missions from different mission givers/factions does work. And I'm not "have heard about that", I do it all the time.

Did that a long, long time ago when I racked up 10,000 kills of Ant Hill Mob ships in Maia, then another 10,000 of whoever they were at war with... had to deliver 2 Type-9 loads of rare goods to get back to neutral with both as I was tried of everyone shooting at me.

If you have assassination missions running and a Massacre mission running too, the kills from your assassination mission can also count towards the pirate Massacre if they're the same faction.

And, yeah, I'd like to see more consequences for actions, especially if those actions include wholesale murder.

Yes, that'll typical happen when you're hostile with a faction, and you keep destroying their ships. There must a 'instant-agro-super'-hostile state somewhere.

I thought that when you're hostile with a faction, you get "Hostile" in red above your fuel gauge.
