Wrecked & abandoned space stations, hollow asteroid bases as "dungeons"

I know FD seems reluctant to borrow good ideas from EVE (system security ratings being the most obvious answer to griefing), but honestly, I would love to get kill / salvage missions to large structures both in space and on the surface. This seems like a no-brainer and the assets are already there. ED seems meant for flying a small ship "Descent" style through a wrecked station popping rogue skimmers and scooping loot crates. Everyone enjoys a good dungeon raid now an then.

I like these ideas. I would like to see more CZ's take place with structures nearby, as well as have them occur on planet surfaces, not just in random nonstrategic areas of space). I would think raiding derelicts and structures would be a great game mechanic, especially if/when "Space Legs" arrives.

Totally agreed. I'm honestly surprised salvage missions into abandoned stations / outposts / surface bases don't already exist, seems like it wouldn't be terribly hard to implement.

At least we do have shipwrecks to salvage implemented. I always love stumbling across a debris field of something huge!

Catch 22, Descent, and Chris Foss in one thread nice :D

I recently decided to try the SC Alpha and dynamic missions like - Fly to Objective -> EVA -> Retrieve Data From Derelict Space Stations / Repair Offline Comms Array etc are one of its strengths. Atmosphere is just right, and you never know who is round the corner. Hope for something similar for Elite FPS. Interestingly the ship combat mechanics are still very limited compared to Elite's - but Elite could certainly do with much more objective-based combat.

It'd be nice if some CZs, instead of a capital ship, had these militar outpost complexes in them, with similar hardpoints to the capship, and you could destroy (not heat sinks, but something relevant, like power relays) and destroy the outpost. This is obviously intended at some stage, since when engaging a capital ship the voiceover says "structure destroyed" on
routing the capship.

Good ideas, even without legs you could use a fighter to scout around inside.
Even use those power up rings, fly through half a dozen to turn on power or a comms array to then get your main ship to come scan a data point to steal info, all the while avoiding npc's.

Or imagine a crashed station on a planet, it would look amazing, you could hunt around in your srv, loads of data points and material to scavenge. All using existing assets really, so might not even be that difficult to implement, but i could be wrong.

Do I not recall a demostration video for ED that showed some sort of "scanning and retriving" during the development phase?

The mechanics are all there, they just have to start adding them all together in interesting scenarios. I only played since Beta though, so i am not sure about earlier phases.
