Well yes, rotating compartments wouldn't work, because the ships just aren't large enough for that.
Well, some of them are. IIRC, in Elite or Frontier, the Cobra Mk III was 120 metres wide.. or 60m? my memory fails me... so they are rather large.

Edit: Sorry, the sizes were given in feet in that old manual, so not quite that big...:

COBRA MK III

Larger, more popular version of the Cobra Mk I (the Mk 2 only reached
prototype stage and was abandoned due to a design fault in the hull). This
ship is equipped with several special features, including Zieman Energy
Deflection Shields, fore and aft, and mountings for four Ingram Pulse
lasers. The Cobra is much favored by lone-wolf traders who wish to combine
potential superior combat qualities with adequate cargo space.

I am working on my plot at the moment, but I think it will be a couple of weeks before it's properly ironed out. Set myself a goal of end Jan.

Where do you want the questions sent to, Michael?

Cheers,

Drew.

Not sure if this is helpful or too much information, but simulating gravity with acceleration means there has to be a moment when you stop accelerating and start decelerating.

If you can get 1G out of your ship's reverse thrusters, that means one minute everything's normal, then you're briefly weightless when the main engines are turned off, then the floor becomes the ceiling as you start to decelerate.

If your reverse thrusters are too feeble, the only way to simulate gravity would be to point your ship away from your direction of travel and use the main engine. So one minute everything's normal, then the wall becomes the floor while the ship rotates, then everything's normal again.

It's a minor enough detail to ignore, but could be interesting if you need a moment of confusion or something.

One issue that comes to mind with the forums is that us Anthology lot will likely dominate. There are much more of us short story writers, and we have a lot more co-ordinating to do than all the lone authors. We'll likely have a lot more active threads going on. I hope this won't get on peoples nerves too much!
