Newcomer / Intro Wrong target number of personnel for massacre missions (on foot)

Twice now (out of two!) the massacre-a-base-full of personnel missions have been faulty. I've killed absolutely everyone on the staff list. 19 people. The target is 21.

Where are the mythical two missing people? I relog to refresh the base, and the number killed goes back to zero (but my notoriety and bounties don't).

I'm this close to abandoning the game. Someone convince me it's not bugged? I killed the two sentry skimmers before I started killing people. So the discrepancy can't be due to skimmers.

Why are there only 19 named staff, if there are supposed to be 21 targets to kill to complete the mission?

I don't get it.

I now have a notoriety of 6 for no gain whatsoever.

Some when you go look at the staff list and it is empty close the terminal down and back away a few feet then go back to the terminal and back in to the staff list and sometimes the missing staff will be shown.

Thanks, I went to several different terminals as I whittled down the survivors, none of them showed the missing two staff members.

I've had a few scav exterminations that say there is one enemy left but they are completely non-findable. I'm shall posit a bug.
Yes indeed. I've had people wander off the base before - but never completely vanish from the staff list! Thinking about it, I recall that I counted them when no-one had died yet (or perhaps one person in the power centre, but that had already been added to my tally in the mission counter). It looked short then. I wonder if someone else killed them before I started!

Around six years ago some NPCs got smart enough to invent their own weapons that worked like Gatling Railguns they also came up with new tactics and started handing Elite combat veterans their butt. Maybe they didn’t all get deleted and some are now going around on foot and are smart enough to not only hide or leave but to hack the employee database before they go.

Even those of us who are most positive about the game won’t claim it is totally bug free, so the missing targets could well be a bug. Your notoriety is not a bug although the mission and its counters can be reset you haven’t jumped back in time to before you killed them all so they still died, it is pretty much why when you reset a materials site like Dav’s Hope the stuff you have already collected doesn’t disappear from your storage.

Rather than abandoning the game due to this do something else for a while, either something you haven’t done before or one of your other favourite things to do.

Yes but surely they'd still be listed on the computer terminal staff list?

I had one mission (an assassination one though) - where the target had actually left the base (in a SRV?) - wasn't on the terminal list. They had however set off a beacon where they had broken down so I was able to find them using that.

That is probably not related but there you go. N.B. I have only done a handful of walkie-mission.

Yes, I've had those too. Careless of them to place a beacon ;)
In this case the first thing I did was turn off the alarms, and shortly after the power, so I don't think they left. But then again ships kept arriving and departing the base even though it was dead and in darkness, so who knows.
What would make things more realistic during such missions, but almost impossible to succeed, would be if people on the base called in support from friends in ships or ground force mercenaries. Rather than rely on guards so stupid they get stuck in powered-off buildings without the wit to use their energy tools to escape the frozen doors.

Yes, I'm going exploring while my notoriety cools off. Shame though as my upgrades were going well, just had a couple of gun mods to do. They'll wait I guess.

Sometimes they sink into the ground and become unkillable. The pixel quick sand only appears to affect NPC’s. Sometimes they decide to walk off the settlement, and given enough time, are beyond scanner range.

When they get far enough away they fall through the ground and die. But since you didn't kill them, their death doesn't count towards your mission.
That's nuts! Oh well, it's a bug then.

Getting a bit bored of having to do every massacre mission twice - and getting double notoriety - so I'll just avoid them in future. A pity. Do the "defend the flag" (object) missions have similar bugs? I haven't tried one yet.

Not as far as the mission goes, if you survive all the waves and the object doesn't get hacked then the mission will complete. There was a bug with some missions spawning enemies that belonged to the wrong faction but that didn't break them.

Time was we used to fall through planets, I haven’t done that but did crash through the surface of one when getting interdicted close to the planet fortunately I could still manoeuvre a bit and found a gap in the grid that supported the surface and got out some hull damage occured.

You do have a contacts list on your HUD while on foot. It has a 1000m range. I pop that up to check if there's anyone around.
Me too! Mainly to make sure no scavengers have arrived to zap me. There were only 19 "humanoids" on that, too. Two short of the mission target.

Just popped by to say the same thing is happening to me. I just started these missions and they are a blast...

until you can't complete them because no matter how many times you try there's never enough people there to kill. If you have to kill 6, they give you 5. If you have to kill 16, they give you 15.

Both of mine were NOT at a military base, just a regular old base. One was a science center and the other was just a port base of some kind.

It's one short every single time for me. It stinks too, but I was having a blast with it, but since it's nothing but a completely bugged and bogus game mode at this point, it's back to space for the foreseeable future.
