WW2 flight simulation?

Everyone knows about War Thunder, but I was wondering if there are any better games out there?

Now that I have upgraded my system, I'd like to revisit the good ol' days where I was playing WW2 flight combat on Xbox, except now on PC where I have my HOTAS and headtracking.

Have you tried realistic or simulator battles in Warthunder ?
In simulator mode you're restricted to cockpit view and it features a much more realistic flight model.
I don't know if it can match dedicated simulations like IL-2, just wanted to point it out.

There seems to be a number of IL-2 titles. Which one should I look at getting?

I have not played IL-2 for a couple years but I played Pacific Fighters version for a long time. I had the original IL2 Sturmovich and it was nice too. You can't go wrong with it imho.

I too played Pacific Fighters for quite a number of years. I may still have it somewhere...

Rise of flight is still one of my absolute favourites and is free to play from Steam. Look up the RoF forum too for Wilson's campaign generator and thousands of mods.

IL2 and you can get CoD for a very small amount. Get the new version as it’s getting upgraded the old version is not.

I hadn't thought about that setting, and F2P? May as well give it a go.
