TL;DR
I have seen people mention that they need to open the HOTAS properties before starting ED. So I thought I would post how I corrected that. (And more
)
I had spent some time working out how to program the X-52 software to give me a PTT button that would take me from combat mode to the FSS screen then go back again when released. (A comment from another thread set me off.)
I found that the scripting would not work when I had the HOTAS properties open. But Elite would not recognise some buttons on the HOTAS unless it was open. The problem was in the default profile. That I had copied and modified to make my own profiles.
Each file has 6 profiles one for each of the 3 modes that I can select on the stick. And another 3 for when the pinkie switch is pressed. I deleted these last 3 and now everything works as it should. It was a stroke of luck that I had used a pinkie + button for the macro. That put me on the right track.
Now I can have a combat and an exploring mode that is switchable from my j/stick. It is also goodbye to the double bounces that some of the buttons have developed. I can filter them out now. And I don’t need to open the HOTAS properties every time before starting Elite.
I hope this helps for anyone who has similar problems.
Delete the 3 Pinkie modes in your profile and the magic comes back.
