Finally,
The Magnum PI helicopter someone on the X-plane.org Forum posted years ago. Here's a picture. It took some computer skills to get this to work in X-Plane 10.
CowanSim came up with a Hughes 500E and added 50 liveries including two Magnum PI versions. It is so very awesome in X-Plane 11 and tons of YouTube videos flying it. I may have to plug in my helicopter controller to enjoy it. I'll have to unplug it starting ED otherwise I lose all the bindings. Perhaps ED could work on that.
Given the history of the Magnum PI choppers maybe go for another paint job.
The TV series used a 500C and 500D so the 500E hadn't been invented yet. They used the N58243 ID which in the first season in 1980 crashed into the ocean killing cameraman Robert Van Der Kar. Other than the intro it was never on camera again.
There were several other versions flying out of Van Nuys, CA but the best on-camera was N1095A and after the series also crashed. It is on YouTube if if you want to see it. Still I'm brave enough to fly with the Magnum PI colors on a computer. If I should ever purchase one in real life it won't have the Magnum PI colors. Call me superstitious...
Still it is an awesome addition to X-Plane 11. The Microsoft 2020 Flight Simulator has some awesome ground graphics that X-Plane 11 cannot compete with nor do they care to try. But if you are a pilot or wanna-be pilot X-Plane nails it. There are too many experienced pilots flying X-Plane aircraft saying that it nails the experience in real life. You decide how to fly.
The Hughes 500 series was a little faster and more maneuverable than the Bell Jet Ranger versions with the same surface ceiling. But the Bell had a lot more passenger room in the back seats. Want a real one? You will love this video.
Meawhile a CowanSim 500E picture at my KJVY home airport. Maybe I'm temping fate...
Regards
