With its 4.0 release it has alot to offer as long as you DL a few choice mods (mostly cosmetic and a few for convenience).
Capturing capital ships is fun. Its like playing pokemon, but instead of a yellow rat you train up Marines by repeated boarding operations in hopes not all of them die. Succeed and you have another big ship to expand your ranks or to sell for empire building funds.
Long Range scanning can be done to find Lock Boxes which hold Rare items such as weapon modifications, relics, or a bunch of stuff to sell for quick cash.
Quite a few different missions ranging from pretty easy to really hard... as in you better bring some capitals and a butt load of drones.
It has a few hitches, but im having more fun playing it than Elite atm. Only a few systems but it feels like there is alot more to do, not to mention the trading actually makes sense.
I like Rebirth more than all the previous titles if that means anything.
