X Y & Z Coordinates - are they in LY's?

As above more explo q's!

Are the galactic X, Y & Z coordinates in LY's relative to 0, 0, 0 at the galactic centre i.e. Sag A* 0, 0 , 0?

Yep... and some chars.
:x

No sleep last night, ought to read twice.
Thought you were asking if it was in Ly, period.

From Sol at (0, 0, 0), positive Y goes above the galactic plane, negative Y below.

When looking towards Sag A*, positive X is to your right, negative X to your left, positive Z is towards Sag A*, negative Z behind you.

As for the "galatic plane", is this the "level" that Sol is "on?"

I am around 25,000ly away from my starting system. How would I go about determining the coordinates for the system where I am right now (which would be just to the left and south of Sag A, coming from Colonia).

For the X, I assume that I pick a random system that is on a straight line (per the grid) to the right of Sag A and on a line north from Sol to get the X (which would be negaive), but I'm not sure how to get the distance from that point down to Sol for the Z, aside from assuming that I just get the distance from my current location to Sol and solve for the other side?

For the Y, do I just pan over to sol to get the cursor "on" the plane and then pan over to my current location, select a system that is on that plane and directly above/below me and record the distance?

The zero-point of the Y-coordinate is the level Sol is on. This is probably about 50 LY above the galactic plane itself, though.

To find your current coordinates, go to the map, select the system you're in, and look at the grid markers. The Y-coordinate will be exact (to the nearest LY), and the X and Z grids have 1 LY squares, marked every 10 LY at close zooms.
You may need to turn "show grid" on in the "options" bit.
