I would've posted this in the X52 Q&A / help thread but it seems to have been closed for some reason, annoyingly.
I've just had a second helping of the blue flashing lights of death on my X52. I took the base off the stick unit as before expecting to see a second wire severed from rubbing on the base, but after poking and pulling around it was actually the same wire severed in a different place.
Where this bracket screws down onto the loom there is an angle in the plastic that digs into the loom, seen after removing the bracket (pic below).
I clipped this corner off and filed the area down, cleaning it up more than the pic shows.
After soldering in a short length of wire as it had already been shortened from the last repair, I screwed the bracket back down. I also put some cable ties around the main loom so they would rub on the base and not the wires, for future protection.
Oh the X52, high end features at a great price, with the roll of a dice though you might have to get your toolbox out! If only there was more competition at this price point.
