X52 pro a newb with this - what is your config setup for X52 controller?

Hi there, i have a question to those with an x52 (or pro)

The way the x52pro is preset configured in Elite do you not find the thruster control button to be extremely small? :S I usually thrust up and away at launch but im all over the place because it is so tiny :(

I previously used a Thrustmaster t flight hotas x and i had great thruster control..very responsive.

I also need to use something else for YAW control as having YAW on the flight stick is too complicated i prefer to have it on the throttle stick...but im not sure how i can. (on the thrustmaster t flight hotas i had 2 paddles which were great for this)

Also find the stick possibly not sensitive enough manoevrability wise...could just be the ship i was in. (just training sidey)

In saying all that ... i havent installed the saitek drivers from the website (just did plug n play) so i suppose i dont have full functionality as yet.

I would appreciate others posting how they use their X52. Thanks.

Also not exactly liking the T switches on the bottom (well at least as they are default configed by Elite) as i have to take one of my hands off the controls to activate them...i guess im being picky lol.

Finally with regards to throttle control (inc decrease) is there a way to set a sortof 0 thrust range feeling indication in the throttle? At the moment i dont have a scooby where the 0 is by pure feeling it alone (im using full range and continuous throttle)

thanks :)

Turns out its not compatible with my z97 motherboard. Hard crashes my pc if i install the drivers and software. If i dont install the drivers and software then half the functions dont work or even power on (specifically the MFD there).

Found both the throttle and flight stick well built. The throttle had, for me, poor button placement imho. (better options and button placement on the Thrustmaster t flight hotas). The flight stick which albeit it is quite big felt very good and lots of buttons all within easy reach.

However a couple of things i would have had to compromise on if i had stuck with it. The YAW control i would have to do on the flight stick. The thruster control button was flimsy and way too small for me. I guess i could reconfigure that to the "mousepointer" button but because i didnt have software/drivers installed i was unable to.

Didnt expect to have reduced options on a vastly more expensive stick...so returned it - and bought the Thrustmaster T flight Hotas. Excellent stick. combined with voice attack no need for anything else. Dont think the difference in build quality is worth it as it isn't that much imo. Saved £80 :)

Hi CMDR,

Sorry to read you're story. Also surprised you haven't had any responses as there are lots of us X52 pro users in the game. :). Seems to have all worked out for you in the end and you saved money, win win!

The base X52/X52Pro bindings for ED - the standard X52Pro setup in the control config - never really did it of me or (in my opinion) used the full capabilities of the stick. I use an X52 and for ED I followed my usual procedure for configuring it for a game. I started with the standard KEYBOARD profile for the game and created commands for all the keystrokes in the X52 programming software. I then bound them to buttons in that profile as I saw fit. I used the 3 modes of the X52 to customize them for specific actions in game. Mode one is "Landing mode", mode 2 is "Flight mode" and mode 3 is "Combat mode".

I have macros programmed on mode switching that ensures that in landing mode I have 4 pips to shields, gear deployed and ship lights on the moment I switch to it. In flight mode by default gear and hardpoints are retracted and I have 4 pips to engine and 2 to shields. In combat mode the guns are deployed and power starts out balanced. In addition the modes remap the buttons such that outside of combat mode the trigger and fire buttons deploy chaff and SCB respectively, in combat mode the trigger and fire buttons trigger primary and secondary fire while the chaff and SCB move to the buttons that in other modes are the "FSD to SC" and "FSD to Jump" buttons, since neither of those functions are available with hardpoints deployed.... etc etc etc.

You'll get MUCH more benefit from building a profile and control config that is yours and utilizes the full capabilities of the stick than by sticking with what you can do with an unprofiled stick in the ED options.

Do not plug x52 pro into USB 3.0 ports

Try plugging the x52 pro into a usb 2.0 port not a usb 3.0. If you only have usb 3.0 (like my computer) try setting them to 2.0 in your bios. When I first plugged my x52 in my PC started blue screening, crashing and not booting. Once I disabled 3.0 in my bios it worked fine, hasn't blue screened since.

Voice Attack is critical to the whole HOTAS setup.

Just not enough buttons, so you can use Voice attack to lower/raise gear, activate panels, etc. Much better than taking your hands off the HOTAS

FWIW, the only time I take my hands off my X52 in flight is to activate the map and type a search in the nav tab. And I don't use voice attack. There are even some unbound controls on the X52 and some others I seldom touch because if it's intelligently profiled for an individual users preferences (I wouldn't suggest my profile for others to use, it's customized with lots of macros just for my play style, not anyone elses) there's plenty of controls for everything you need.

Yes, yes, but is Tom Baker your ships computer?

I must agree AND disagree..

1st off im guessing your a flightsim person dcs probably.. The reason i say this is the setup of the macros. Anyway while i totally agree with you, i found the standard x52pro in game setup was 90% there for me, just needed a couple of buttons tweaking or swooping around. Then there was no need for the macro switch for me..

However for the BETA 2.0 i have found this not possible with the SHIP layout and the SRV layout..The way i would like it for ie for the X and Y axis on the ship i do prefer the standard X and Y, but on the SRV i prefer the Z rotation. Also there is a couple of buttons i would change around. If the ingame could change the profile for the different class then that would be great for me.

I guess this wont happen and its no major issue really, it just means that i will have too use the macros and start again too get used too switching from one too the other.. (bloody got too used too my normal layout).

The mode switch for the X52 pro should handle that nicely. I know people have a Flight, Landing/docked, and combat layout mapped to the 3 modes available.

Yes and no :) I do love a hardcore flight sim but that X52 has been configured for everything pixelated that flies from Falcon to X-wing to Tornado to Descent to WingCommander to DCS to Freespace to Comanche :D

I just looked through all the control options and without checking out the X52 default bindings I asked myself "OK, if I were mapping this to my stick, for me, how would I do it?" THEN I looked at the in-game X52 setup and shook my head saying "Ugh, I can do better than this.. " so I did ;) It was pretty obvious that to make best use of my controls I'd want them set differently in regular flight, approaching a landing pad and boiling pirates, so that was the mode switching decision, then it made sense to ensure that the "base ship settings" in each mode were consistent and suitable for what I used that mode for, hence the macros.
