Hardware & Technical X52 Pro - Free play in the joystick

That's normal. It's play between the stick and the return springs and not the sensors underneath.

It does mean that you have to set deadzones for the stick unfortunately so as to counter the poor centering when you let go of the stick.

now, with me being a novice to the joystick univers, is this something common to a lot of models/brands or is it some more than others ?
 
Some more than others. My old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 stick has no slack, but this is probably because instead of springs it has powered actuators.
