X52 Pro users - a question!

Hello Folks!

I'm about to ditch my X55. The throttle is not very well and right now I can't face re-wiring the damn thing. Actually I can't face cleaning all that awful gunk out of it before re-wiring. So instead I'm gonna open my wallet.

I've kinda settles on the x52 pro as the stick that meets my needs now. One thing I have got very used to on the x55 are the analogue scroll wheels, I use the for thruster axis, makes landing a complete breeze regardless of ship or G's.

Do those scroll wheels on the x25 pro have a centre detent? On the x55 there is a nice click at the centre of the range, and I am really hoping the x52 has the same!

(If anyone has suggestions for other sticks which give me an extra four good analogue axis above the standard stick/throttle/rudde I'm listening)

EDIT
SORRY, obviously talking about the wrong wheels :D

No, neither the slider or the wheel (singular!) have a centre detent and the stick (and throttle) itself is VERY poor quality. I definetely cannot recommend it. It's by far the worst, overpriced piece of plastic junk I ever bought.

It fits perfectly to the ingame HOTAS though!

PS
How about a thrustmaster instead?

If you are talking about the two wheels at the base:
They don't have a detent either and IIRC you can't even bind them ingame.

Not to disagree with you, but BOTH "dials" do indeed have a centre detent. (i.e. the one around the "E" button and the one around the "i" button. The scroll wheel at the back of the throttle does not however, but that works fine for me as I use it as a sub-target selector, with the click function being used for next waypoint. The slider does not have any sort of detent at all.

I have an X52 pro on both of my systems, and have not had any issues at all with either one of them, so as to the issues others regularly report...I can not relate.

A yes, I completely forgot about them because I can't use it. Because of the poor build qualty the software thinks they are moving all the time, which is why I needed to set the deadzone from 0-100 :)

Lol Babelfisch, I obviously got the only good one as I have had no problems with mine.

Sadly I bought mine in 2016, most people who bought the HOTAS before Mad Catz took over have a fine stick indeed. I don't know how the current build quality is since Logitech owns them, but I guess it takes a little bit more than a few months to have a proper QA.

I'm considering trying to find specimens from all 3 "batches" and do a full teardown and component inventory with oscilloscope analysis to see if there really is that much of a difference.

The left bottom button can be bound as a push-down, the byproduct is that it still operates the timer on the display - not a big deal really. I'd still really like to see something make use of the display in-game though.

I'm not 100% convinced that they changed parts/supplier either, but they definetely fired the entire QA departement.

Have you considered the X56? I don't have one, I'm still using my X55, but it's on my list of possible replacements. I love using the G and F wheels for vertical and lateral throttle.

I haven't had any problem with my throttle, apart from it being so thirsty that I have it on it's own dedicated, powered hub.

I have had to repair the stick internals several times though, so I feel your pain. At the same time, I appreciate that it is repairable. All the parts just unscrew. Nothing is glued shut, or tamper-resistant. I like that.

I read a post on MadCatz website that, as of the X56, they were switching to a different manufacturer due to the previous one having build problems. I have used a X52 Pro for close to a year now and I'm perfectly happy with it. No problem whatsoever.

Both my rotary dials have detents, it's an original Saitek one from launch and still okay other than looking quite worn now, I'd hope that now Logitech own them quality should be on the up.

Indeed... I got an X52 at the end of December 2014, and used it exclusively for Elite. It lasted 18 months, before I started getting problems with it - for me it was a hat switch on the throttle that failed. Mad Catz offered a replacement, but I'd not long got my annual bonus so I bought a TM Warthog instead. I don't regret dumping the X52 in the slightest, but I may have just been unlucky. In any case, the X52 is now in the loft, and the Warthog has pride of place.

Thanks folks. Confirming I can use my current x55 setup on an x52 pro :D

I really wanted the thustmaster to be good, but it doesn't appear to have any useful controls for thrusters (for me). I find having completely seperate axis perfect for my flying style. I don't really want to buy what is essentially a legacy madcatz product with a different badge but there are no viable alternatives!

Hello. And yes they do. But I don't know if the centre 'click/detent' is the same as your current x55 setup. But, they do have them :)

Flimley
