[X52 Pro / windows] - How to program keys on a French locale ?

Hi CMDRs,

I try to program flight assist off/on on my X52 pro but have issues.

The default in game key is 'Z', but having a french keyboard layout, for me it become the key 'W'. No issue with that.
I selected a profile (2nd one - dedicated for combat) and reprogram the button 'b' of the throttle to send a 'W' then retry to send a 'Z' but none are working.
(the 'W' key on the keyboard does send the 'Z').
I guess this is a common feature that some currently use, so how did you implemented it ?
Isn't ED grabbing keys by keyboard key-code rather than by sent character ?

Thanks in advance for any hint,
O7,

Hi again,

I finally solved my issue.

When sent from a throttle/joystick button, ED is mapping the character sent, not the equivalent keyboard key-code. So it means that it follows your locale.
Thinking to it, it seems somewhat logical in some way.
To keep the original keyboard mapping, I then program the French layout 'W' key (that have the 'Z' key-code from keyboard), then modified ED settings so that when pressing throttle button, ED adds 'W' as second command to switch FA in addition to the keyboard 'Z' key-code mapping.
It burns 2 keys on the keyboard as when pressing the key 'Z' on my keyboard it could trigger the FA as well, but when in combat I never use it, so not that much of an issue I guess.

I think any of us havinbg a non US keyboard layout mapping will have this kind of issue, not only French keyboards.

It works like a charm now, so I share this in case others would have the same issue.

personally i use voice control via voice attack which many commanders use for most mundane things like landing gear, lights, night vison, hyperspace, calling up cockpit panels etc (which becomes essential if using a VR headset)
but i use FA on/off like a rally car handbrake frequently so thats mapped on my controller🤷‍♂️

Yep. I never used voice control. I don't like playing with a headphone/mic and play solo. I guess it could be really nice, but it does not match my expectations nor my way enjoying gaming. Just a matter of personal way living a game, but I admit that could be enjoyable and efficient. On my side, switching between my 3 X52 profiles does the job ... well... as far as I succeed in programming them ;-)

i use 7.1 surround speakers quite loud and a wireless spec ops throat mic....... (they dont pic up ambient noise)
only for late night sessions do i use headphones

its completly free indef for one 30 command profile enough for elite at least to test the waters
i like that fact activating any key like L can raise lower landing gear and play back a sound i chose the hydralics from the drop ship in the aliens movie so you can enhance sounds giving the game a slight uniqueness to you
which took all of about 30 seconds to programme on the fly and in game
(well as long as you have collected some sound samples using audacity for eg which is also free)
switching on night vision for eg i pinched the sound sample from the predator movie when he swirches vision modes:D
i have the jump sound of the falcon when entering hyperspace (li like the engine strain sound b4 the jump)
well you get the picture or not as the case maybe

Yep. Totally agree, but as you guessed, it cannot (currently) apply to my context.
I would love to trigger "echo" or some others form the Floyds in some circumstances, some Led Zep or far more trash things sometimes...So, let's say we will see that tuning later on...
