So, one of the reasons i got the x52 pro, was because i had been using the x-52 and didn't want to go through the trouble of having to set up my HOTAS again. so imagine my extreme anger when i plug it in and all my settings have disappeared. i cant even navigate menus because the hat stopped navigating and the space bar no longer selects what is high lighted. i apparently have to go through and set up every single button i use. is this normal? i don't remember having to do this much setup for my X-52. i'm so irritated right now. it took me months to get my old HOTAS just like i liked it and now i have to start over even though its teh exact same button layout?!?!

They're different sticks. Just because Saitek give them a similar name doesn't mean that they are technically the same. They report different USB IDs so there's no way of knowing that you upgraded from one to the other.

If you have your old custom binds you can send them to the link in my sig to obtain a graphical reference sheet for your X-52, which should help you set up the X-52 pro.

I would hazard a guess that the two controllers are recognised differently. This isn't a bad thing if you want that, unfortunately that isn't what you want.

On the plus side I imagine the profile for your old controller probably still exists & I imagine you can copy it over manually if you don't mind digging it out of the appropriate directory & using a text editor on the right file. Unfortunately I'm not on my PC to check those things but hopefully someone can furnish you with that information shortly. You could try contacting support too, they would know.

So much anger that you must write a post ? I understand why we have strict gunlaws in Europe.
tsk - tsk
take a cupa tea.

Cheers Cmdr's

<x>:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

there are your bindings.

if you customize settings, elite creates a new file for them (called 'custom' i think). you can freely copy/rename it to whatever you want, the name will show up in your control options screen for you to select. this also allows to have different custom settings, not just one.

if you don't do that then there is only one 'custom' file and it will get overwritten as you change stuff, like a new controller. easy to screw up.

regularly backup your custom control settings. elite installs/upgrades are often messy.

i understand your frustration but if you backup your settings this will never happen again to you.

keep in mind this game is done by weird alien geniuses with little knowledge of ordinary basic software engineering stuff.

so i'm most of the way through re-setting all my bindings, and i've run into a wall. I use to have engine boost mapped to the "i" button on my throttle. when i go to set that up for my x-52 pro, it simply won't let me assign that button to engine boost. i can assign other buttons to engine boost, and i can assign other functions to teh "i" button, but i cannot assign "i" to engine boost for some reason. i've checked and it doesn't look like "i" is already being used. this is driving me crazy. between the server being down and the less than intuitive binding menu i haven't been able to play elite all wknd. any suggestions? teh button is working because i can assign it to other stuff (like flight assist for example) but the game won't let me assign what i want to it. this is so frustrating.

OK, so apparently it was an MFD setting that wasn't an option on teh x52 i guess. so i have my boost issues squared away. now i just have to figure out how to make my space bar select stuff again.

I'm having the same issue with being unable to bind boost to the "i" button. What did you do to resolve the issue? Thanks Punkin_Pancakes!

That's because you currently have I set as the Clutch Button. Open up the X52 control panel(the one where you can check to make sure your buttons are working and go the MFD tab on the window, down at the bottom of that window there should be a check mark next to "enable clutch" uncheck that and then hit apply and close the window you'll now get to use the i button for boost.
