x52 Setup Guide

Hello Commanders!

So my x52 (non-pro) arrived today - SHWEET :D

Anyway, this is basically the first time I am using a joystick setup for a game since... I dunno... 1998? It was a long time ago, just put it that way lol

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any sort of idiot's guide to setting up the x52 with Elite Dangerous? With preferred button mappings and the likes.
I've already decided on some of the buttons I wish to use for certain functions, but if anyone can guide me in the right path, I would be very grateful :D

Thanks all! Fly safe

The game is already pretty much set up for the X52, as it appears to be the "preferred controller" for the game. I have the non-pro version and just love it!

I'm waiting on Santa to deliver mine, so also interested in this. From what I've read, the out of the box profile for the X52 (pro in my case) has some functions still left on the keyboard.

I'd like to make use of the mode switch to create modes for combat, landings and flying or such. Is this possible? Will that involve using the software the stick comes with to map things? Does the game recognise which mode is selected when mapping commands?

I'm sure I'll discover all this come the 25th, but any info to give me a head start would be welcome.

BTW, I have this like favourited already in preparation:

Seems I can't post links. Google "Getting use out of those X52 extras"

Thanks

Ok sweet, so I don't have to manually bind each and every one of these keys? :D

I didn't change hardly anything, just a couple, and added some things to unused ones. I've gotten really happy with the default. It's all second nature to me now, I don't even think about it or look at what I'm doing on the hotas anymore.

Have fun with it. I have just set up the mode switches to have a few of the buttons do different things when you flick it.. The trick to it is to stick with the standard bindings to start with (just choose it from the drop down in the controller options) and play around.

There are a couple of gotchas, but a search will find you the solutions to those (clutch button setting and shift key).

To set up the mode switches its pretty straight forward once you have your head around it, but it will involve remapping some of the controls in the game to a key, then mapping that key to the button on the controller.

So for example, I have the number 7 key mapped to 75% throttle in the game, and when in mode 1, one of the buttons is set to click 7. In mode 3, the same button on the stick is set to click 'z' to toggle assist off.

I've slowly worked through it as I found that I was still needing keys on the keyboard, now I only use the keyboard for typing in the chat.

Its awesome and it will make E: D even better.
