X52 with external profile or bind keys via in-game controls.

Hi,

I just got new X52 hotas and tried external profiles but I am having problems with those. Suddenly some controls does not seem to work and overall external profiles feel a bit unreliable to me.
Next I tested to map controls via Elite's own controls. It works fine but this way I feel that X52 got one or two pow hat too less. Now I am playing so that I have certain functions in Hotas and certain on keyboard. This seems to work ok but I thought that when I get X52 I don't have to use keyboard anymore.

Do you X52 users use external profiles and in game keybindings? It feels really nice to use mode knobs etc but at the end of the day I really appreciate reliability.

By the way I can't map pinky button via ingame controls. I got the I button working but I have no idea how to get pinky working without external profile.

I have a very old X52 and don't use profile software. I think you need to uncheck the "Enable Clutch Mode" option to get pinky button to work.

The Clutch Settings are (for me, Windows 8) found in Control Panel > Devices and Printers > (right click) X52 Flight Control > Game Controller Settings > Properties > the MFD tab.

I have the "pinky button" + "hat switch directions" set to open different cockpit panels.

Hope that helps you get things sorted.

Do you mean that you can get pinky working as shift mode via ingame controls? I have removed both ticks in the clutch settings in the mdf tab. Still it's not working.

I had issues with having to open up the properties tab every time I wanted the altered clutch settings to work.
In the end I went with the X52 software. Now I just pick the right profile when I boot from the taskbar and it works from there.

I have a x52pro and bound all the buttons ingame.
Be sure to kill clutch mode in the windows settings and set all the keys to... uhm... that function that make them available as normal keys, pinky as well.
Since Elite supports multi-button bindings you can use any button you like has a shift function just by ingame bindings.

Use the rotary on the x52 to create 3 modes with different setups.

1.docking
2. Flying
3. Combat

Means you can turn off boost in docking mode and have it auto turn the lights on and change your thruster layout to help with docking. Etc

Remove all the shift modes rom the profile if you want to use the pinky switch. Then use the pinky switch as a modifier (shift) for elite bindings. Voila, just doubled all your buttons.

How do you make that work? Can you do it within the game like a shift button?
Also, I have to open the game controller settings in windows prior to booting ED to get some of the buttons to work and I still can't use the integrated mouse and a couple of others to register

Thanks a lot guys. I got it working and now I really have to start using combos. I just love this forum how much help you get from here.

I guess for the rotary switch to work you need external profile, or?

I have a X52Pro HOTAS, a Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS, a thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS and several others to shoose from, but my favorite "controller" of all it VoiceMacro (like Voice Attack, but with less back talk)!
