Hardware & Technical X52 woes... again and again

I've reinstalled Windows about eleven times over the last day or two. Every time, the stick has failed to install. I get to the part where the installer asks for the stick to be plugged in. I do so, and nothing. It never recognizes the stick being plugged in and the driver never proceeds to install.

I've checked all the crazy stuff I've found on the web: I'm using a USB2 port, got xHCI turned off, disabled driver signature enforcement, tried with my network connection unplugged, turned around three times under pale moonlight and done it all again with

I've tried the beta driver, the non-beta driver and the last version 6 build. All of them act the same way. Device Manager throws an error about the driver installation file "missing a necessary entry" because it was "built for Windows 95 or later" if I try and update the driver manually.

I'm at a total loss now. I have no idea what to try next. Looking for any advice at all that might get things moving.

Have you tried installing from the device manager?

Open up device manager with the stick plugged in and highlight the stick and click update driver and indicate where the latest driver you have is.

How many ports have you got on your machine? Tried them all (I'm guessing you have)?
I've had issues with devices not liking the front ports on my desktop before.

Windows 95 .. i think thats what you mentioned ... check what version windows you are running... the X52 pro is working very well with win 7 and win 10. plug n play.

Windows 10? My MFD keeps lighting up despite me turning the lights off on it :(

As for the OP, is there another laptop/pc you could try the joystick on to eliminate the joystick from the possible problems? As an aside; under Windows 7 I had issues with the very latest (then) driver and had to downgrade. Under windows 10 though - the latest Beta drivers work.

assuming the USB ports all work and the joystick works (test it on another PC) then the issue may be that the USB port you are trying to use does not have enough power or is too far down the chain. Try to use a port that is on the mobo and not one on the front panel or a hub

Yes. It's not perfect (profiler throws a barking mad error) but the driver will at least install. The profiler won't run but at this stage even a different error message feels like a win:

Does the stick light up or have any messages when plugged in?
The lights go on, but the MFD stays dark.

Are you installing the motherboard drivers for your USB ports or just letting W10 handle the installation?
I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a go now.

Are you using the Windows 10 driver?
Yes, although I've tried several and they all act the same way.

All sorts of ports tried - USB3, USB2, front, back and HDMI once by mistake.

I have X52 and win10 64 bit, and it runs perfectly after I installed X52 software and drivers from madcatz,
I had some problems with win7 drivers.
Try this http://www.madcatz.com/downloads/beta/index.html
i've tried every driver I can get my hands on - beta, non-beta and ancient V6 drivers that look like Windows 98.

Saitek tech support told me that a new version of the driver will be available on Monday. Assuming that actually happens (it was the end of the call and the information was only forthcoming when I said that the end of the year wasn't good enough) I'm sure there will be exciting new problems to solve.

Slightly cynical? Perhaps. But I'm getting fed up of this lazy, shoddy, amateurish company and I'm rapidly losing faith in their ability to accomplish anything besides take my money and run.

I don't think it's a Saitek/madcatz issue, there are many many issues where similar errors happen due to USB inf issues and it is usually down to faulty or corrupted USB drivers. Google the error about it being a 'built for win95 or later' bit and you will get a great many results.

I downloaded the win 7/8 sw/drivers for my win 10 and stick is working fine.

Never had any issues with the stick or drivers on win 7 or win 8. Been using mine with ED since alpha.

Why are you trying to use 95 drivers?
