X52pro to load drivers or not?

Finally got my X52 pro (decided against the x55 after much deliberation) and have replaced my FFB2.
I must say this is certainly a superior stick (FFB2 for WW1 sims is great, but not enough precision for ED).

I'm running windows 7 and just plugged it in and made a custom controller setting for it and everything's running fine.

My question:

Should I load the drivers? Do I need them for anything?

The reason I ask is that I've read quite a few posts about the drivers screwing things up.

Thanks for any input!

All depends which drivers you did load.

Microsoft automatic ones? CD ones? Downloaded Saitek ones?

If everything is working ok, I'd keep it as it is, until you find something that doesn't work. To be sure that everything will work ok - disconnect the cable, remove the device and enumerator. Download the Saitek drivers, reboot, load Saitek drivers, plug in cable when asked to.

I say dont do it.
I havr the X52 pro and it works great with stock plug and play drivers.
My money says if it aint broke dont fix it. Also i DID see some posts where the software caused problems.

Another thing you might already know, there is a checkbox on the properties , under MFD tab I think, to uncheck shift mode. It makes yr throttle thumb button useable as boost instead of shift.

Enjoy!

I did read that, but there is no MFD tab, since I havent loaded any drivers at all.
I just plugged the stick/throttle in and started flying.
--Just double checked...yup, no MFD tab, just the option to calibrate or test.

I loaded the official drivers and profile editing software from saitek.

Have sometimes seen the software crash on startup (windows 8.1) but just running it again seems to sort it, never caused any problems in game.

The benefit of having the full profile software on there is the ability to use the shift function. I have my pinkie trigger setup so that I can access shop menus with the same hat switch I use for targeting functions.

As the game is developed further and more controls are required the ability to double up the controls will become more and more useful, a good example of this will be shield zoning.

It's a bit of a chore seeing it all up in the first place but we'll worth it when you get the controls right.

If you run with Windows stock drivers how do you disable the clutch mode for the pinkie ?

I used the official drivers from Saitek and don't have problems.

Depending upon which USB port I use though I do see failures. (Mainly USB3 causes issues - USB2 is fine)

I didn't install anything on Win8.1 and apart from the buttons under the MFT and the mouse stick it all works.

I think what others are referring to is the "Clutch Mode" (?) you need disable so you can assign that button.
It was in the 2nd or 3rd tab I think - sorry not at that computer.

I had a few problems with my x52 and wandering calibration till I got a cheap AC adapter powered hub. Everything mostly works fine and I use the Saitek profiler software.

Profiles the incorporate the pinkie as a shift button do work, requires some patience because the profile editor will often crash trying to set the pinkie function.

But once set, it works fine in game. It's not necessary unless you like adding MFD display labels to your macros. So when you press a button it's function pops up on the display. I use the pinkie a lot in war thunder. With the two stage trigger I have guns on first stage, cannon on second and rockets when both the pinkie and trigger are held down.

ED doesn't really need it though.
