X55 Duplication of buttons... ?

Hi Guys

I just got the New HOTAS but the buttons on the Throttle and Joystick are coming up as the same number in ED. There cant be two Joy 5 buttons or Joy 6 buttons, one on the throttle and Joystick ? What am i doing wrong?

I could not understand why my cargo hatch kept opening when i want to boost in combat ...or i suddenly go into silent running when i press the target next button!

Thanks to krysohmyz

Found the problem:
Both must be in UBS 3 ports! ... and took the lights down to the middle not on bright (Highest)

Below is a similar issue!

Yeah they don't show the details but there are two JoyX buttons, one for the stick and one for the throttle. Once you've set up a configuration you can use the link in my signature below to generate a reference sheet for it, which is handy for those buttons you don't use quite so often.

you lost me by the two Joyx buttons ? Sorry m8t

Each thing (throttle and stick) is treated as seperate joysticks, seperate usb units, and each unit has a button 1, so both the stick and the throttle has a button 1 (joy1) but they're not the same button. It is simply that the game doesn't show you that it is "joy 1 button 1" or "joy 2 button 1" etc. so they're not duplicates.

If you have the option, try an USB hub with own power supply. X55 sometimes have these problems when it doesn't have enough power through USB.

It isn't about that at all, it is just about OP not knowing that ED doesn't show WHICH usb unit is mapped to a function, only the button number/axis

Really? From what I understood he has a problem with one button doing two things. Which is a typical ghosting.

Not, the problem is that there is both a button called joy1 on the throttle and the stick (trigger and default boost button), and when OP is mapping them in ED ED just says "joy1" ED doesn't say "stick joy1" or "usb1 joy1" so when you map those keys to different functions, it LOOKS as if the same key is mapped to two functions, but it isn't.

@Zorian...

Cool i got it ....so how do i determine which is which when i setup because they steel number setting from each other .... if i set Joy5 ..and there is another it will just vanish...

Is there no way to assign the joystick you working with first to know which buttons are which!

@Krysohmyz

Yes it looks like i have two functions to 1 physical button! Randomly...

Oh wait, I might be wrong here, so if you bind something to joy1 on the stick, and something else to joy1 on the throttle, does the stick joy1 binding idssapear, because them I'm a and krysom is right.

I logged this as a ticket months ago, so am surprised that it remains unchanged. 'joy 1' on the stick is different to 'joy 1' on the throttle, it just confusingly looks the same in the menus.

There is (still?) actually a configuration file (can't remember which off the top of my head) which does actually differentiate between input devices if you want to check it out.

Updated: Found it, find the file in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\Custotm.binds

Note 'Joy_1' shown below is not a duplicate, as the device is different, but this isn't really represented in the game menus

<PrimaryFire>
<Primary Device="SaitekX55Joystick" Key="Joy_1" />
<Secondary Device="{NoDevice}" Key="" />
</PrimaryFire>

<UseBoostJuice>
<Primary Device="SaitekX55Throttle" Key="Joy_1" />
<Secondary Device="{NoDevice}" Key="" />
</UseBoostJuice>

i'm using the usb hub of my display, and don't have any problems. So, you eventually don't need to buy a dedicated hub just for the hotas.
