Has anyone been able to get the slider on the throttle or the black rubber switch to work? I would love to get the slider especially to toggle flight assist on/off as it's placement is perfect.

The black rubber switch ( I assume you mean the mouse nipple) can be useful if you allocate xy percentages to keystrokes in the config software. So can be used for lateral thrusters for example. I have not found it useful as an analog input.
The slider I have also found to be useless. It just isn't a toggle. I had an idea it might be useful to activate FA/off in hold-down mode for one position of the slider but I haven't tried it because I like to toggle that mode. I think I will try it next time I am at my desk though and report back now that I have been reminded.

tl;dr - nope not found a use for them but thought about it...

Mouse nipple is useless because of bad accuracy, I used it for mouse head look but found that POV hat is much easier. You can turn it on in Saitek HUD.
I use slider for "FA off" just set FA off on a keyboard button then set it on "hold" then go to HUD and program that key press on the slider.

I use that slider on the throttle for boost.. I think its pretty handy actually. The most forward position being the activation of boost. Gives you that feel of "pushing" the ship faster.
Give it a go, and see if it works for you.
Also, on the joystick, I've turned the far right toggle switch into a view mode. If I click it upward, it gives me the left panel (target/comms) and if I click it down, it gives me the right panel (status, cargo, etc).
I find that this is really handy too.

I use the slider to toggle reverse throttle. I also have a temporary reverse hold button on the index finger button of the throttle, but occasionally the toggle is good for extended backwards flying (e.g., maintaining distance to slow enemy while shooting at them). They way I've set it up is map the toggle to caps lock (basically the only modifier key I can think of that won't trigger keyboard shortcuts together with keypresses). It's actually the only mapping I've done in the Saitek software.

(I used to configure the mouse nipple as a mouse and then use mouse headlook in the game, but I've since switched to EDTracker2.)
