X55 Rhino £30 off

Plenty of stock in the channel now for this one.

I have 60 here and I walk past them in the warehouse trying not to look at them :)

The X55 is a superb stick for Elite. Yes it costs a fair chunk of beans, but it is worth the extra. The two extra fire buttons and the third hat on the stick are really useful, and all those toggle switches on the throttle... never have to touch the keyboard.

I spent ages debating X52 vs X55, but so glad I invested a bit more and went for the Rhino.

Ha, weird. When my daughter ordered mine for my Xmas present a few weeks ago it was 169, the other day the price shot up to 189, and now... £149

Those guys at OCUK need to make their minds up.

X55 is a good choice as long as you know the possible issues, and the resolutions. RMA or DIY, the choice is yours.

1. Stiff and clicking twist axis: Avoid grease under the plastic cup. And if that doesn't help, then upon dismantling, the twist mechanism can be lubricated. [Krytox is best]
2. Trigger can be manky. Some have found incorrect assembly to blame. Easy to correct by simply loosening one screw and repositioning a washer.
3. Ghost inputs: Try USB 3, if that fails, a powered hub.
4. Notchy feel to stick: Lubricate the shaft with a gel based lubricant. [Again I would favour Krytox]

Kinda semi-offtopic but is X55 worth the 30€ extra compared to X52 Pro? It's 190€ here while X52 is 160€. And furthermore, are they both so much better as to justify the price difference between them and the regular X52?

Reading that I think I’ll go with the 52 Pro…….Or does it have the same problems?

I'm using the X52 Pro. Curious to hear from anyone with experiences of both whether this stick is any better.

My first x-55 had a rough, ridiculously squeaky twist axis out of the box... returned it and the new one was good, but quickly developed the sticking/clicking twist rudder. I have to manually force it to center. saitek have offered to rma it, but I'd have to ship the whole thing 2500km's... and really have no faith it won't just happen again. Is it really just lubrication it needs? do you have any resources that have more info on that one?

Not all of them have issues. All the happy customers of which there must be many, don't have a reason to post in forums. Forums are where people post about issues, so it's easy to get the wrong impression.
I'll let you know what mine's like tomorrow.

Here for lube on the underneath of the cup causing clicking and sticking...

Here for how to lubricate the twist mechanism internally, if it needs it...

Important note though: Don't use graphite like the guy in the video did! Use either a silicone grease or better still Krytox by Du Pont.

I'm tempted by this, but unfortunately I've sworn to never buy another Saitek product ever. Their quality control is just terrible. I've had a Keyboard, Mouse, and my current X52 Joystick and they've all had issues, and Saitek C/S have tried to help but ultimately washed their hands of responsibility. I wish Logitech would make a proper HOTAS system. I'd be on that like a shot.

Same here mate, I too have been victim of their lousy QC ... never again.

Well, my X55 is fine as regards lube on the joystick shaft. Roll and pitch is fine. Throttle is a bit stiffer than I'd like but not too bad.
The twist axis on the other hand is way too heavy for me, it's a chore. If you don't grip it firmly the stick slips out of your hand a tad. Don't get me wrong it's not VERY heavy, but it makes being precise with the yaw very difficult, Difficult when landing and targeting the bad guys.
Anyone know if the twist action gets looser with use???

Bought my x55 specially for this game (sad aren't i) and so far so good.
Can't fault it.

Obviously can't comment on whether it's worth the extra over the x52 as I've never used one, nor have I had any contact with Saitek/Madcatz customer service (yet?). But thoroughly enjoying using the x55 6 hours each day :)

I just bought a CH Pro Throttle, completely due to the fact Saitek gear is garbage. As much as I wanted one, I just couldn't do it. Anything with Saitek or Mad Catz isn't really worth paying money for. They should give it to you for free and then you pay a fair price - possibly akin to the Humble Bundle.

Alas, every review I've read in regards to CH gear, most people have had to retrofit their kit, or have it retrofitted for free by CH, from serial to USB. It may not look glorious but at least it works :)

I just wish that the CH Throttle looked as cool as the X55!
