Newcomer / Intro X55 Rhino Help??

Hi All

I am trying to set my X55 Saitek Rhino up but need some advice on procedure. Is there a good keyboard guide you can recommend and once I have, can someone assist with inputting these to the Rhino software? I have tried with limited success.

This assumes the process is:

1. Set the keyboard bindings up to preference
2. Enter the appropriate key binding to the X55 Rhino programming software
3. Test the operation
4. Test in game.

Issues that have occurred involve the Joystick settings replicating on the throttle??

Any help is appreciated.

thanks Bart

Before starting to fiddle with programming and software, why don't you let it like it is and try the default X55 profile in the game? You don't have to set up anything and most of the bindings are quite alright and very usable. I had to change maybe eight of them, later, in game but otherwise it's just fine, and I never had to touch the saitek software at all. Unless, you want to program multi-keypress macros and that kind of stuff, of course. :)

This.

The default X52 profile the game came with was perfectly usable. I made a point of going through each binding and assessing whether or not it was sensible to me, as I find it really helps to learn the layout if you take ownership of the bindings.

thanks for the advice. I seem to have worked most out but having difficulty with the menus (UI) and selecting??

Again, this is already set up in the default profile. Don't mess with it for no reason until you know what you're doing. The main UI cursor is on the hat switch with the prominent shoulders, on the main stick. The one that caught me out at first was that the control for going between tabs in the UI (e.g. between navigation points and contacts in the left panel) is the lower of the two little digital four-way nubs on the throttle, near the red boost button. It seems weird at first, but actually makes perfect sense after using it for a while.

(Yeah, selecting menus made me a bit cross for a few minutes, but some experimentation made it all clear :D)

Here's what the default layout is, roughly, stolen from an older thread:

Stick:

Throttle:

That's not 100% right, for instance, there is thrust up/down on the same hat as left/right by default, and button H4 on the throttle is throttle reverse, as I recall.. but it will get you started.. you can work out any remaining inconsistencies for yourself, I'm sure.

Once I was happy with the layout, I tweaked mine slightly, for example, by moving the subsystem select from a switch to the "pinky spin" wheel on the left of the throttle, and putting the sensor zoom down there instead. Each change I did on its own so I didn't get frustrated in flight. The other tip is to stick little labels near the base switches on the throttle at first, as it can be a lot to remember.. it just flattens the learning curve a bit.

Thanks for the indepth explanation - it has been driving me nuts so this will short cut the learning process. No doubt I will have more questions to come!
