X55 troubles

Well.. I was pumped to get home today and try out my new X55.. only to have my balloon busted. After installing the software / drivers I found that the stick was DOA. No buttons or triggers would recognize and the stick movement would only register about ever half second or so.. visible in the calibration and in the Saitek software. Tried running the calibration tool , reinstalling drivers.. different USB ports.. etc. The throttle works fine. Bummed out though. I think I'm gonna have to send it back. Has anyone seen this kind of issue ? Maybe I'm missing something :S

I had a problem where all the buttons and hats on the stick didn't work. Its the silly mechanism that they use so you can change the springs. One of the contacts on the bottom of the stick did not reach the Pads properly. I found a tiny plastic spec on one of the contact pads on the base, Its must have been a common connection. After I cleaned it up a little it all came to life.
However I really, really, had to do the thing up scarily tight for the contacts to be made.

I don't know about the movement not working though. I had to run the calibration routine in their software to get it to register the movements correctly.

I wont be pulling it apart again. If I want to add more tension I will make an insert to slip above the spring without having to unscrew it.

Damn, BillD you are the man! After seeing your post, I took off the throttle to inspect.. I didn't see any thing, but noticed some of the protruding contacts felt stiff when pressing them (they are spring loaded) I put a little rubbing alcohol on a cloth, wiped them down and presto! Works !! I hadn't even taken it off to change the springs yet, so I was surprised it worked. :D I'm glad I posted here. I had the thing boxed up ready to go back to Amazon. Thanks again for responding :)

I had exactly the same problem with mine and fixed it by accident when changing the spring. I decided to give the contacts a wipe down while I was doing it and really pressed down hard on the stick when I was tightening the collar back up. Lo and behold...the buttons started working.

As for the calibration software, and windows detection. It only seems to work for the one I plug in first. Luckily, the throttle doesn't need any fiddling with so I just plug the stick in first. It manifests in the HUD by greying out all the calibration buttons on the settings tab. The programming tab works fine.

This is exactly the problem I'm having. Initially they both worked, but now the stick's settings are greyed out. I've sent them a ticket, but they need more information which I haven't bothered to supply as yet. I haven't tried replugging them in, I'll give that a go. Was there anything else you did?

I remembered that in order to,switch the calibration 'greyed out ness' from the stick to the throttle, I unplugged them both, uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled with only the stick plugged in. It's a pita but does mean you can set the dead zones and do the axis calibration for the stick. The good thing is, when you click Apply, these settings are (or so I read somewhere) saved to the stick itself so you can reverse the process to calibrate the throttle. In my case, I prefer he stick settings to be changeable as these are more likely to be fiddled with as I get used to playing.

I did do the calibration of he throttle in Windows game controllers to set the range of the axes for all the spinners. Then I did the change to throttle.

Hope this helps.

I've read that some of those x55 sticks ship with some mechanical issues and some are turning up DOA like your and thats why I've never been interested in getting one although they do look pretty impressive.

I kid you not that every time I read about an X55 I also read about issues. I hope they get these things fixed so that people who want a decent Saitek don't need to scour the earth for an X52/Pro like I did when I took the plunge a couple of months back. I live in a city with about 5M people and found just 4 in stock locally!

I've had the contacts thing after changing springs.

A careful re-seat fixes it.

No driver issues so far, apart from E:D not recognizing the throttle nipple mouse as a mouse, which I understand is a driver limitation.
